Chapter Fifteen
Justin laced his hand in hers and pulled her up to her feet. She leaned her head on his shoulder and shivered. he instantly removed his letterman jacket and placed it over her shoulders. She smiled up at him as they continued to walk home.
"Emily I have something to ask you?" justin said stopping outside her window
"Yeah?" She said turning to him.
"Well there's this party tomorrow and i was wondering if you'd....
Emily placed her lips over his and laced her fingers with his. She pulled away and began to climb up the tree. She was inside her window in the room.
"So is that a yes!" he yelled out with a huge smile
"Yes.' She whispered
"Oh wait your jacket!" she said holding it over the ledge
"Hold on to it for me. I'll come by tomorrow at seven okay?"
"Alright." She smiled watching him walk away. She closed the window and turned to look at her father at the doorway.
"Uh dad I can explain everything." She said nervously
"That you have a date tomorrow night and you snuck out tonight?" he said with a grin on his face
"Basically." She said sitting down on the bed.
"So I'm grounded and I can't go?" She said looking up at him. There was something different about him.
"Well I'm in a good mood and I dunno you've never gone out before. I guess you can go, but no more sneaking out." he said looking at her sternly
"you got it. Dad you're the best!" She cried wrapping her arms around his neck.
"Yeah I know." He blushed
"So I bet you want to meet him." She smiled puling away.
"You betchya I do." he smiled
"I guess." She sighed.
"I have someone for you to meet too." her dad smiled
"Really? Who is it one of your business buddies?" She frowned
"No. Now Emily I know I haven't seen anyone since your mother's death and that's been like fifteen years ago." He said
"Dad. What are you getting at?" She asked looking at him curiously
"Emily I'm dating someone." he said bluntly
"You are?" She said shocked
"Yeah and I'd really like you to meet her. She's a very nice person Emily and she cares for me."
"I bet she's great dad."
"Justin like you're boyfriend?" Her dad smiled
"Justin is a great guy!" She said with a laugh
"Alright pumpkin, pick out what you're wearing for tomorrow and then hit the sack." He said kissing her forehead. he walked out and closed teh door behind him. What a crock of shit! She hated it when he referred to her mother as being dead. She knew she wasn't dead. She wasn't dead at all. She'd researched once in the obituaries in their old town and didn't find her. Hopefully this woman he claimed nice really is nice.
Emily got up from the bed and ravaged through her closet. Frustrated she gave up. she walked out of the room angrily.
"What's wrong?" her dad asked from inside his room.
"I can't find anything to wear!" she cried
"Check up in the attic, you're mother's old dresses are stored there." He yelled
Emily pulled down the fold out staircase from the ceiling. She climbed up into the dusty old attic. It smelled of old musk and wet wood. She rummaged through a few boxes before she came upon an old trunk that was filled with her mother's old clothes.
"I can't believe she left this stuff behind." Emily said as she pulled out different colored dresses. Her eyes settled on a blue silk skin tight dress. It had a ruffle shoulder that draped down and it flared out at the bottom. She pulled it out and stared at it amazed.
"This is the one." She smiled as she packed away the rest and walked down from the attic holding the blue dress. She hung it up in the closet and sprayed it with perfume to get rid of the old attic smell. After a nice warm shower she laid back on her bed smiling. Tomorrow night was going to be perfect.
At exactly seven Justin was at her window. She was in her robe and she peeked out the window.
"Ring the doorbell!" she yelled down to him.
"What?" he said confused.
"Just do it!" She said before closing the window. Justin walked around to the door.
"Here goes nothing." he said ringing the bell. The door slowly opened and Justin's heart started to race.
"Hello, you must be Justin. I'm Emily's father you can call me Paul." he smiled letting Justin into the house. Justin sat uncomfortably on the couch watching her father light a cigar.
"So where are you taking my daughter out to?" her father asked with a full voice
"uh well the country club. There's a big party there." Justin said nervously
"Sounds nice. Emily will be back by....let's see its seven now how's eleven?" her father asked
"That's fine." justin said becoming even more nervous. He hated doing this. Meeting father's it was the most nerve wrecking experience.
"Calm down, I'm not going to shoot you." Her father laughed.
"Dad! Stop scaring him!" Emily yelled from the top of the stairs.
"I am not doing such a thing. Emily are you ready yet?" Her father asked
"In a minute!" She cried running around the hall pulling on her shoes. She tied the straps and then fixed her hair slightly. She took in a deep breath viewed herself once more in the mirror and then slowly walked down the stairs. Justin watched as she stepped down slowly. A smile danced on his face seeing how beautiful she looked.
"Ready?" Justin asked getting up.
"yeah let's go." She smiled
"Alright eleven. becareful and don't do anything bad." Her father said
"Dad!" she wined
"I'll see you around Justin." her father smiled
"Bye Paul." Justin said walking Emily out of the door. The door closed behind him.
"God I've never been so nervous in my life." Justin sighed
"Awww did he scare you?" She said looking at him.
"Not much. I just hate meeting father's.  You look beautiful." He smiled kissing her cheek.
"Thank you." She smiled back.
"Oh by the way I borrowed my dad's car cuz it's a hike to the country club." He laughed
"Okay." She laughed as Justin opened the door for her let her in and closed it. he went over to his side and started the car up.
