Called to Be Dreamers.

Parables and Miracles.

Question #1

What is the one key idea of this chapter. pay attention to the title of the chapter!

The main idea of chapter eight is called to dream. As Christians we need to revolve our hopes and dreams around Jesus our savior. Allowing our dreams to revolve around Christ will help us enter the Kingdom of God on earth, and will show that we are true followers by our good deeds and actions. Our ideas and dreams have the power to change us both positively and negatively. If we allow Jesus into our dreams we will have a positive affect on the world. Others will know Jesus is in our dreams by our actions of justice and equality for all. Jesus shows us how to act with his stories and parables, but also by his suffering, death, and resurrection With the help of Jesus in our dreams we will grow in faith and help build the Kingdom of God here and now on earth.

Question #2

Write about two major ideas you want to remember. Write a short paragraph on each clearly stating the idea and then telling why you want to remember it.

One key idea from chapter eight that I would like to remember is the Paschal mystery. The Paschal mystery is defined as the saving mystery of Jesus’ suffering, death, and resurrection. Through the Paschal mystery we can learn about our inner world, the true source of our dreams. When we open our minds to listen to the voice within and open our hearts to respond to that voice we can connect our dreams to the Paschal mystery. When we do this we will work with Jesus to build the Kingdom of God. Everyday we face a similar version of the Paschal mystery. We are reminded that from our deepest suffering come our greatest gifts, and although Jesus faced the worst suffering in the Paschal mystery he saved us from our sins and gave us the best gift we could ask for. I want to remember the Paschal mystery because it is a connection I can make with Jesus. If I can understand that with suffering I will find great gifts, I will not live my life in fear and apprehension, instead I will live everyday to the fullest and find joys in my pains.

Another idea I would like to remember is parable. A parable is basically a story with a twist ending. The goal of this type of narrative was not simply to provide a story, but to convey a search for the meaning of the story. As different people try and understand the parable several interpretations will result. Jesus used parables to make comparisons. We need to understand that parables provide us with a religious or moral lesson about the kingdom of God, they were taken from the circumstances in the everyday lives of Jesus’ audience, they reveal truths to believes and conceal truths from non-believers, they have surprise endings, and they present listeners with a challenge to respond to the word of God. I want to remember the idea of parables, because it was the way Jesus conveyed his message to his followers. I want to be a follower of Jesus, and the parables tell me what I need to do in order to be a follower of Christ.
