THE FRONT BUMPER ABOUT FINISHED. JUST NEEDS A FEW HOLES IN THE SKIDPLATE AND A RECIEVER HITCH BLOWN INTO IT.. |
I HAVE KEPT THE SAME REAR BUMPER FOR A FEW YEARS NOW. I ADDED THE EQUIPMENT TIE DOWNS RINGS ON IT THIS YEAR BUT OTHER THAN THAT ITS BULLET PROOF WITHOUT ANY OTHER MODS. |
IT WAS DIFFICULT FOR ME TO DECIDE WHAT FRONT BUMPER BEST REPRESENTS MY TRUCK. THE TUBE PRERUNNER BUMPERS ARE VERY COOL BUT DONT GO WITH THE REST OF THE TRUCK. IT NEEDED TO BE BASIC, BRUTE, AND BULLET PROOF, IN A WORD, MILITARY! |
I DIDNT TAKE A TON OF PICS WHEN I BUILT THIS BUT I DID TAKE A FEW THAT ARE ON ANOTHER ROLL THATS NOT YET DEVELPED. IT STARTED AS A 2X6 PIECE OF C STEEL AND I CAPPED THE ENDS WITH 1/4 DIAMOND PLATE. I WELDED THE 2X3X1/4 ENDS ON THAT. I USED THE OLD HOOK THINGS FROM UNDER THE IFS FRAME ON THE FRONT AND HUNG D RINGS FROM THEM, THEY SHOULD BE PLENTY STRONG FOR YANKING ON... ITS MOUNTED TO THE FRAME IN 4 PLACES AND THE THE SKID PLATE WELDED LIKE IT IS IT WOULD BE NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO TEAR IT OFF! THE BUMPER IS COMPLETELY WELDED ON, NOT BOLTED! IT SITS NEARLY FLUSH WITH THE FURTHEST OUT POINT OF THE HOOD, EXCELLENT APPROACH ANGLE!! |
THE REAR BUMPER WAS ONE OF MY FIRST WELDING PROJECTS ON THE TRUCK A FEW YEARS BACK. IT HAS PROVED IT SELF OF THE TRAIL AND IS SIMPLE AND RUGGED, I PLAN TO KEEP IT FOR YEARS TO COME! |
THE REAR IS SIMPLE, ITS JUST A 2X4X1/4 BOX TUBING WELDED TO TWO 2X2X3/16 PIECES OF BOX THAT RUN INSIDE THE FRAME. I HAD TO NOTCH AWAY SOME OF THE METAL UNDER THE TAILGATE TO GET IT TO SLIDE INTO THE FRAME, BUT WITH A 3" BODY LIFT ITS PLENTY EASY. IT PROVIDES A PERFECT DEPARTURE ANGLE ALONG WITH BEING BOBBED! ONE DAY I WILL ADD A RECIEVER FOR A REMOVEABLE WINCH... |
