Zephaniah

Introduction
The Prophet Zephaniah is one
of the minor prophets of the Old
Testament. He is believed to be of
some royal descent and from
Jeruselem. In the Bible he warns
about "The Day Of The Lord." His
warnings were split into three
major sections: "The Day Of Doom",
"A Judgement Of Nations", and
"Reproach And Promise For Jeruselem."
His importance in salvation history
mainly lies in the fact that his book
added on to the list of Apocalyptic
Lituriture.
The Setting
Zephaniah was believed to have done most of his activity during
the reign of Josia (641-611 B.C.E.) This was soon before the Babylonian
Captivity. He was one of the many minor prophets in Judah, the south.
It is also believed to have occurred before 621 B.C.E. because this
is the year of Josia's Reform, which is believed to be a reaction to
Zephaniah's Prophecies. He began his activity as God's reaction to
increased worshiping of foriegn and false gods.
