At the beginning of each meeting we ask what are known as "The Ritual Questions." Their purpose is to share with the other members what they have been doing all month in order to advance their writing careers.

Not Necessarily in Order

*What is a good rejection? Isn't that a contradiction in terms? The definition of this term has been tossed about at the group for a while. The best I can come up with is the following:

Any rejection from an editor that is beyond a form letter wherein the editor makes a personal comment is a good rejection. Because, it tells the author that he is getting closer to the possibility of making a sale. Most editors do not have the time to make a personal response to each story they reject.

In my opinion a good rejection occurs when an editor asks for a rewrite and a commitment to buy. But then that isn't a rejection is it?

I am ambivalent about this question because the ultimate goal is sale, publication, and recognition from millions of adoring fans all over the world. Well, isn't it?
