*What is a good rejection? Isn't that a contradiction in terms? The definition of this term has been tossed about at the group for a while. The best I can come up with is the following:
Any rejection from an editor that is beyond a form letter wherein the editor makes a personal comment is a good rejection. Because, it tells the author that he is getting closer to the possibility of making a sale. Most editors do not have the time to make a personal response to each story they reject.
In my opinion a good rejection occurs when an editor asks for a rewrite and a commitment to buy. But then that isn't a rejection is it?
I am ambivalent about this question because the ultimate goal is sale, publication, and recognition from millions of adoring fans all over the world. Well, isn't it?
