Stacy had seen them before at dogshows, even looked at them many times on the internet but never thought she would ever own one. Stacy met Donna through their American Eskimo Dogs. She went to Kansas to meet Donna and to purchase a show Eskie puppy. "Toots" jumped in Stacy's lap, kissed her face and was so excited to see her.. this was the first time Stacy actually touched one. That personality, the sweet face, the smile she brought to anyone meeting her..... Stacy will never forget that day. Chinese Cresteds adores food and will leap about in anticipation of a tiny bite. There are two types, the Hairless with hair only on the head, tail and feet and the Powderpuff who is completely covered with hair. A friendly family dog, not aggressive towards children or other animals. They do not make good kennel dogs, because they love the companionship of a home. They do best as a one dog family and sometimes do not like to be over handled by strangers. Odorless and hairless they are a very low maintenance breed. Care and Training: Weekly grooming of the Powderpuff Chinese Cresteds. Hairless Chinese Cresteds needs only skin massaged regularly with cream. They may become sticky and dirty in hot weather as they perspire. Hairless Chinese Cresteds should also not be left in bright sunlight because their skin may burn. Both need minimal exercise. Hairless must be kept warm, especially during winter months. Learning Rate: High intelligence. Average trainability as they have a mind of their own. Activity: Moderate Living Environment: Apartment or home, not an outdoor or kennel breed. Country of Origin: China History: The Chinese Crested is said to have began in the thirteenth century in China. From there they found their way into Europe and South America through the trade routes on Chinese sailing ships. Chinese Cresteds are thought to have been the mating of the Mexican Hairless Dog with a Chihuahua. Their registration in the UK was in 1881 but they did not make an appearance in the US until 1960.
