1.Know the Facts
To Know the Facts is more than just memorizing, it's feeling, remembering and intelligently discussing the topic set forth. To act immorally, "you have stated erroneous opinions without educating yourself on the topic."
Ignorance states that someone is unaware of the facts, to simply put it. For example, as a football player I find myself knowledgable about the sport, yet, I don't know everything, which makes me ignorant.
Culpable Ignorance simply states that, if you "diagnose a patient when your knowledgable that you know little about medicine, you are guilty of culpable ignorance.
Finally, the Catholic Church "affirms that a person's conscience is primary", meaning that it is impossible not to follow your conscience and participate in anything.
2.Remember the Principle of Contradiction
The Principle of Contradiction exemplifies the need for broad-minded individuals in the world. For example, my mom is a very strong pro-life person. She has strong values and just beliefs any many topics. But, She tends to stand on the republican isle, only for their beliefs that it isnt a choice, it's a baby. Which i believe as well. When I talk to her about politics she tends to focus on the Republicans because she belives all Democrats are pro-choice. This is more than likely incorrect. But, it caused her to seek reason on this topic. She searched for polls and other evidence to broaden her veiw on parties, and it helped her and gave her insight on politics today.
3.Define Your Terms
To defy your terms is too understand a matter and beable to discuss it on an intellectual level. "The validity of a persons's arguements depends on how well one defines his or her terms." Defying your terms allow individuals to ask the difficult, yet, vital questions, that are needed to succeed the narrow-minded aspect of knowing the facts, but to know the facts you need to understand them by defining them. "
4.Be Intellectually
To be intellectually humble is to understand that there is always an opportunity to learn new ideas, produce new theories, and to educate yourself. I always find myslef wanting to learn, but you can't learn without excepting what you don't know. For instance, our great President George W. Bush, he not only went to war for no concrete reason, but, he has yet to announce that the war in Iraq was a mistake and could easily have been prevented. Which in return would save lives and may have prevented some collapses in the government, economy, and the world.
5.Look For Different Perspectives
"There's usually more than one way to look at an issue." For instance, the young man in prison, Colin Carpenter, who murdered a friend over a game of dice. If, SLUH would have allowed Colin(don) to stay, would he have committed that brutal crime? Or, what is a good thing to let him go, because this crime would give SLUH a bad reputation. Either way both sides are valid but I would lean towards the side that would have allowed Don to stay at SLUH. I choose this because SLUH would have been able to help him out with his problems and would have changed his reason and outlook on life, his actions, and would allow him to hopefully prosper into a man for others.
