Rasmus was born on a tiny island called ONA or Ohnen, of the Sandoy/Akero Islands in More og Romsdal in Norway.
Raised in the fishing community by his parents
Knute Elias/OliasKnudsen and wife Emete Marie Larsdatter.
Emte was born 3-11-1846 in Orskog Sokelven Trusing, Romsdal, Norway. She died 7-13-1894, at the age of 48, on Ona, 2 days after giving birth to a baby that died as well. Her parents were Lars OLSON & Berthe Marie RASMUSDATTER. Her brother was Knud Olias Larsen b. 4-4-1847. Emte & Knute had: Iver (1874-1887), Knut Lauritz (b.7-13-1876), Nils Andreas (1879-1881cause of death dodsrang/deathleap eling/shower squall), Hannah Nickoline (1881-1973), Rasmus 1884-1921, Iver G. 1888-1970, & Child 1894-1894).
Knute Elias Knudson/Knudt Ellius ONO was b. 9-3-1842 in Sandoy Akero, Romsdal NO. to Knud JORGENSON (1808-1860) m. 9-16-1834 IvrineARNESDATTER (1811Akero -1876) daughter of Arne IVARSEN & Gjertrud S. (In 1865 Ivrine was living in H. Mageroe Sando Akero Ohna with Adreas Knudson b. 1839 Akero & Berretine Iversdater b. 1836 Fraenen. Knutes siblings:Gjertrud Ane KNUDSEN (b.1-1848), Elan KNUDSEN (b.2-18-1851), Petrine KNUDSEN (1853-1861). After the death of Emte, Knute m. 5-29-1898 Beret Maria OLSDATTER (b. 1858) Her father: Ole OLSON. Knute and Beret had F. Konrad KNUTSEN b. 1895 Ona, Norway. Knute left Christiansund NO. w/ his daughter Hannah ONA (1882-1973) and her son Emil Kistian (1904-1979) traveling on the Manitoba to the Port of Duluth MN 2-1908/9. (No mention of Beret & F. Konrad.) Knut could not read or write and signed his papers with an X. He was 66 when he bought 160 Acres for $240. Sec. 33 154N /93W-5. 10-27-1909 Homestead papers were filed. Ole SVEEN, Ole KIRKLAND, E.P. RUPP & Rasmus signed as witnesses.  He said he was married. & a widower. In 1909 he broke in 3 acres. 1911he broke in 5 acres. He lived in a 16x16 sod house. Walls, with lumber roof, with a good well. Valued at $200. Knut said he had 4 children. (Rasmus, Iver, Hannah, ?..) He was sick for a couple of weeks in 1911 and stayed with his son during his illness, leaving his property. He was 5'4 145, dark hair, blue eyes. He died 2-1913 at the age of 72 from heart & kidney disease. It is said he is buried somewhere in Mountrail Co. Ross, ND. 
Rasmus was in 1900 Norway census of  Sando Romsdal, Lyngvaer Farm. Rasmus was a 16year old fisherman living with Andreas SIVERTSEN b.1847, Jorgine Knutsdtr. b.1837. Sirianna Andreasdtr. b.1875, Gurian Ellingsdtr. b. 1834, Laurits Knutsen b.1887 (this may be Rasmus' said brother) all three lads residing temporarily in Aalesund, with Nils Andreassen b. 1871. Rasmus came to the USA  from a fishing village Lyngvaer Norway 4-26 to 6-5-1905 via Hamburg Germany on the ship Amerikan Line. Going by the name Rasmus ONO he filed for ND Homestead 5-25-1906 154N-93W-5.  Witnesses were: William & Henry WIEDERT, E.M. RUPP, George BORRUND. Rasmus married  6-22-1907 in Michigan/Lakota, Melrose Ev. Lutheran Church to Marie SVEEN, the daughter of  Hans SVEEN and Matia. Marie's brother was Ole SVEEN (1883-1960).Rasmus had a house on his land 7-15-1907, broke 6 acres in 1908 and had 6 acres in crop. The house was 10x12, sod house 14x16, framed barn 18x30 ft., cellar, 5 acres fenced, 7-8 acres cleared of stone, well with good water. Residence valued at $250. After Marie died, he gave his daughter baby Esther to a friend Alfred ANDREASON ONA (1885-1982) & Inga ORSETH ONA (1889-1968).  Rasmus then  married the widow/neighbor Bessie Benson OVERLAND (b. 1886.) Came to US 1899) who had Charles OVERLAND, Herbert OVERLAND, Milton Jack OVERLAND. Shortly after their marriage in late 1920. Rasmus died of pneumonia in May 1921, and was buried next to his first wife & kids,  at the Center Church in Mapes, ND. Rasmus's last residence was at the old Hermon L. KNUDTSON/KNUDSEN (b. 7-31-1858 Rauland, Telemarken NO. d. 3-13-1917 ) 149 N/58W/5 farm.(Hermon came to America Coon Valley, Vernon Co. WI  6-1878 via Port of Philedelphia. Came to Nelson Co. ND by Lee Post Office in 1882. He started homesteading 11-15-1883/7-25-1885/10-30-1886 159ares. Pet CHRISTOPHERSON, O.O.TOVSLAND, John G. OLSON m. Louise HILSTAD, and had Letta who m. Ole SVEEN- Marie's brother) were witnesses to Hermon's Land purchase. Hermon maried Marie Holter from Coon Valley WI. (Marie d. 1904, was Aunt of Thom Hauge and Mrs. Albert Helgeson.) Hermon & Marie had: Agnes Elizabeth m. 1929 Edward Boyum in Minneapolis MN & had: Audrey Boyrum)Herman m. Aasne Killingtveit b.Rauland, elemarken NO. Farming Center Twsp Section 27. Moved to McViI1e in 1910. Widow Aasne Knudsen m. L.O. Haugo 8-24-1924.)
