Faces
I look at everybody
And I see only empty faces
Shells hiding who they really are
And I watch the shallow acts they pull
To make them feel they are better
By putting others to shame
And they smile their phony smiles
And they laugh their hollow laughs
And you laugh along and you won't be laughed at too
And so the shunned stay shunned until another scapegoat emerges
Before you know it the shunned are shunning with the rest
And they become accepted
Well the cycle repeats until the victors are clear
And the winners stand up tall and command
Conformity and make men into fools
Whenever they attempt to protest

But we brought this upon ourselves
With our eagerness to be one of "them"
And you could always stop pretending to be like everybody else
But you can never take back the words you said
And the clothes you wear can't keep true friends
The money you earn is only useful if you are already rich
And people never change when they start believing
That change is inevitable
