Friends Of Lynette 7th Annual Bike
                       Tour

Thanks to everyone who participated
in this years bike tour. We are
grateful for your support in helping to
fight cancer, and in keeping alive the
memory of two very special people.
Two very special people were
diagnosed with cancer in 1988. Billy
.Gugino Jr., age 8 weeks, and his
grandmother, Lynette Grisanti. Billy
was diagnosed with a brain tumor and
Lynette was diagnosed with breast
cancer. Billy passed away a year later
while Lynette lived another 4 years.
During Billy's treatments he and his
family spent hours, days, and even
weeks at RosweU Park Cancer
Institute. The "Friends of Children
with Cancer" helped make the stay as
comfortable and homelike as possible.
On the anniversary of Billy's death,
Lynette reminded us of John 11:25 "I
am the resurrection and the life, he
that believeth in me, though he were
dead, yet he shall live." She was
reminding us that those who believe
in God the Father shall be reunited in
heaven. Until that time, Lynette and
grandson Billy will be remembered in
a special way.
...Billy was Lynette's first grandchild.
As a childhood disease, cancer is rare.
However, dispite this fact in 1999
alone it is estimated that 8,400 new
cases of cancer will be detected and
1,600 cancer related deaths are
expected to occur in children ages 0 -
14. Although cancer is the chief cause
of death by disease in children under
15, mortality rates have declined 57%
since the early 1970's. A portion of
the funds raised through this event
help aid the research and treatment of
pediatric cancer.
The purpose of the "Friends of
Children with Cancer" is to provide
support to the inpatient and
outpatient Pediatric / Adolescent units
at Roswell Park, and to the families in
W.N.Y. of children with a diagnoses of
cancer. Our main focus is to provide a
"home atmosphere" for the children
during their hospital stay. We also
provide social and support activities
for the patients and their families.

Aikido Winter Camp

With winter camp fast aproaching this February the editor thought it appropriate to include a summary of last year's camp. Dates for this years camp will be posted as soon as they are available.

A band of Kin Tora Aikidoka went
down to Appamatox, Virginia to
participate in the group's winter
camp. Senseis Jim Hall and Jack
Joseph played it smart and flew down,
but the rest of the group convoyed
down together. This is one of two
camps run each year by Sensei Roy
Suenaka, the head of the Aikido
organization Wadokai. The camp was
very informative and as always a lot of
fun. Highlights included Sensei Eric
Joseph's class on Judo? As always
Sensei Eric put everyone one to the
test with his workout, and helped the
group by sharing some of his expertise
in groundwork. Shihan David Isgett
also provided expert instruction on
the relationship between sward
techniques and Aikido. And of course,
Sensei Suenaka's instruction was once
again not only priceless, but also
extremely humbling for everyone who
attended. The weather was against us
however, and those who drove down
ended up leaving after Saturday's
workout and drove through the night
to get home. The entire group
consisted of Sensei's Eric Joseph,
Scott Porter, Pat Christie, Jim Hall
and Elisa, Dan and Benjamin Goupil,
Caesar Botello, James Franklin,
Brendan Hand, Barb Kinsey, AI Luzi
Sr ., and Charles and Kris Riollano.
