PRODUCTION:
Originally at New Line Cinema, the project was shopped to independent production companies. It's now being discussed as a project for television.
CAST:
None yet.
Mick Garris recently told me that CBS has expressed interest in doing Desperation as a miniseries, though both he and King wanted to give first crack to ABC where Garris directed The Shining and The Stand. The script to Desperation was actually written by King himself and was meant to be a feature, but now it's looking more like another miniseries. Garris also spoke with Creature Corner's Ryan Rotten and had this to say about the project:
It's a terrific script. It's very hard-hitting. You know, it's very intense and I think New Line didn't want to spend $33 million to do a horror movie that is a real horror movie and isn't about teenagers joking about other horror flicks. The weird thing about it is it may become a miniseries. I've always said that I really don't want to do it for television because I want to keep how aggressive it is. But with King you can stretch the envelope a little bit. You know, THE SHINING would have been rated R had it been a theatrical movie. It gets pretty intense.
