Descendants of Adam Roehm
Generation No. 1
1.
ADAM1 ROEHM was born February 09, 1800 in Hesse Homberg, Germany, and died Bet.
October 1859 - 1880 in Pennsylvania. He
married (1) ELIZABETH ROEHM before 1832 in Germany. She was
born Abt. 1805 in Germany, and died Aft. 1850.
He married (2) SOPHIE KLOVIS Aft. 1850. He married (3) CATHARINE Abt. 1870.
Notes
for ADAM ROEHM:
My
Roehm's were possibly (Von) Röhm in Germany.
Adam was a subject of the Duke of Hesse Homberg in Germany according to
his naturalization papers. The Duke’s province was located approximately 10
miles north of Frankfurt
am Main; and Meisenheim on the left bank of the Rhine. He departed Germany from the port of Bremen and arrived in the
port at Baltimore, Maryland the 1st of May 1831, then removed to Philadelphia,
PA in 1837. On Oct 10, 1837 Adam
declared his intent to change his Country of allegiance from Germany to the
United States of America in the Court of Common Pleas. On Sep 19, 1840 Adam
Roehm made his Oath of Allegiance at Court of Common Pleas to the US. He was a piano maker. His sons by his first wife Elizabeth were
Adam b: about 1832 in Germany, Charles b: Feb. 1836 in Maryland, Joseph b:
about 1839 Philadelphia, and Gilbert b: 1844 Philadelphia. Adam’s wife
Elizabeth died and he remarried between June 1850 and 1854. His second wife's name is believed to be
Sophie Klovis. Children of Adam's second
marriage were William b: Oct. 1855, Jacob b: Sept. 1857 and possibly John. There was also a daughter Elizabeth born
about 1856. Some of the brothers
started a tailor shop called Roehm Brother's Trinkets and Trim and his son and
or grandson Charles stared a box factory.
By the late 1880s most of the family moved to Camden, NJ, but still
owned the tailor shop in Philadelphia. By 1900 it looks like the brothers were
mostly retired and a younger generation of the family was operating the tailor
shop and most of the family was living either in Philadelphia, Philadelphia
County, or around Norris Town and Abington Township, Montgomery County,
Pennsylvania.
