Madonna
Ok, so there I am, watching the Madonna special. She is a godess in my eyes, and I am hearing how they wanted to ban her video for "Like a Prayer" and the church wanted to ex-communicate her. (Oh no! Not that!) And I cannot help but think how silly it is. Madonna has a right to "free speech". And even if it's a little bit over the top, you have to dig down to see what she is really trying to say. This goes for anyone really. Why do so many people feel that they have censor everyone who has an opinion? is it because it is a danger to our society? I think not. I am not going to rant on here about religious things, but I am going to explore another aspect of Madonna a bit further.
Her sexuality. Madonna is amazing to be able to express her sexuality, something that we often hide. She wears cleavage bearing shirts, and other clothes that reveal that she is a woman. In her video for "erotica" she showed a very important part of life. She was not encouraging "unsafe sex" but moreso an expression of sexuality. Why should we cover it up? So many people are afraid of their sexuality, and hide it. It's human nature.
"And I'm not sorry, it's human nature..."
Did I say something wrong? Oops, I didn't know I couldnt talk about sex... must've been crazy... did I stay too long? I didn't know I couldn't speak my mind... what was I thinking?
These lyrics sum it up. If we're so 'free' to speak our mind, and be who we want to be, why are we still being censored? It's just a blatant hypocrisy on our society's part. And people wonder why the church and other "authority" figures are not liked. Sure, some sheep still follow the leader, and abide by every single little rule, but then the "individuals" speak what they're truly thinking, and they, like Madonna, are the ones who are truly heard.
