The Railroad Links Page
August 3, 2001

These are the railroad links that I visit most often and where I get most of my research information on the Chessie System and other related information. More will be added later. Click the locomotive or railroad car to go there.

CHESSIE PHOTO ARCHIVES: A great website with photos of almost every Chessie System locomotive and caboose.

CSX PHOTO ARCHIVES: Another great website by the same guy with constantly updated information on CSX's everchanging locomotive roster.

FALLEN FLAG RAILROADS: Has about everything about every railroad. Particularly on railroads that don't exist anymore. I check this site almost daily for new CSX, Chessie System, and other railroads I have an interest in.

CSX CAR TRACE: From the official CSX website. If you know the reporting marks and number of a car, this will tell you where, when, and on what train it has traveled on. It works for locomotives also and is updated all the time. This would work great if you spot a locomotive and want to know about the train and where it is headed.

TERRASERVER: Microsoft's database of sattelite map images. I found this to be valuable when watching trains or designing specific areas on my layout. Has images with a resolution as low as 1m.

Topographic maps from the Penn State University Map Room. I used to visit the actual library while I was a student there. Also good for finding specific railroad locations and modeling. Has a list of tiff files of all the USGS Topographic maps in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia, however, note that these files are HUGE, but worth the wait.
