The V/V Syllabication Rule
    If two vowels standing together within a word do not go together to make one sound, then the the syllables will be divided between the vowels.  The vowel in the first syllalbe is always long since the syllable is open.  In most cases, the accent is on the first syllable; such as in the words  chaos, real, trial, poem, cruel.
