RESPECT  FOR  OTHERS
RESPONSIBILITY  FOR  YOURSELF

During the year we will discuss the meaning of respect and responsibility.
These two words cover any classroom rule that could be written.

Having respect does not mean that you have to accept and condone the actions of others.  I want my class to learn to think for themselves and then stand up for the principles in which they believe.  I do, however, expect them to treat others with respect even if there is a difference in thinking and actions. 

Being responsible for yourself and your own actions will also receive major empahsis.  We will discuss the concept that each child is responsible for his/her own actions even though others are constantly influencing them to  do things contrary to their own beliefs.  Ultimately "the buck" stops with each child.  This includes attitude, actions, decisions regarding homework, and effort put forth in daily lessons.

If during the day, a student chooses not to be respectful and responsible:
VERBAL WARNING
NAME ON THE BOARD
CHECK BY NAME INDICATING RECESS LOST
SECOND CHECK BY NAME INDICATING A SECOND RECESS LOST
A THIRD CHECK WILL REQUIRE DETENTION BE GIVEN
