Backstreet Boys' Split: It's An April's Fool Prank
Source:MTVasia

The truth is out -- the Backstreet Boys are not breaking up. Yes, it was an April's Fool joke.
Got you, didn't we?

We hope that most people got a good laugh over the weekend and hadn't been unduly affected
by the news. This is the first time we have run an April's Fool news item (it probably won't be
our last) and it was made as "unofficial" as possible, i.e. not quoting any sources directly, or
from anyone who existed in the first place. There was also a hint dropped within the news item
-- we named the Labels Manager Norman Bates (the main character from Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho").

Here's a statement from Backstreet Boys' own label, Zomba Records:

"Zomba Records would like to thank the fans for their enquiries on the news ran on
MTVAsia.com about the Backstreet Boys breaking up. The April's Fool joke on March 31, 2000
was done with the knowledge of Zomba Records Asia Pacific. Zomba Records Asia Pacific
hopes that readers will take the joke in the spirit of April's Fool Day.

"We would like to confirm that the Backstreet Boys are not breaking up, and that they are
alive and well as one of the greatest bands today. We would like to thank the fans for their
support, especially in faithfully sending in the BSB petition. In support of our appreciation,
we have some prizes to give out to 10 lucky fans who sent in their petition. Once again,
thank you for your support of Backstreet Boys."

MTV Asia Online promises there won't be another prank like this one -- at least until
next year's April's Fool.

BACKSTREET BOYS "STAY TOGETHER"
for those who signed a petition asking the band not to break up, MTVAsia appreciate syour love
and loyalty to BSB. They will be awarding prizes to selected senders of the petition.
