just over a week until amy ray's solo album titled stag is released. i can't believe that the wait is almost over. i am so psyched. i pre-ordered my copy from the ultra cool daemon records! i've already heard all of the songs on the album (thank god for bootlegs), but i can't wait to see the liner notes and to have the actual cd. a few samples: "poor man do the bidding for the rich man "testing 1 2 3 in the marketplace "the preacher asked him for any last words "come on now graceful yeah, so i am obviously psyched for this album to come to me! by the way, this isn't amy's usual folkie/rocker sound. this album is a combonation of her punk side, her bluegrass influence, and of course partly of the rocker side.
woo hoo! i forgot to mention that my kickass indigo girls lovin' friend becky is hooking me up with the indigo girls' chicago honor the earth performance tape. that was an awesome show. i can't wait to hear the tape. speaking of ig boots, i so need to update my ig boot trading page. i have a lot of new shows that need to be added to my list. as of now, i am only trading for stuff that i really want. i'm not doing any newbie b&p's (i did my fair share this past summer and fall). maybe i'll start trading more again after i get back from japan. every trader i know goes through periods of not trading. i just have most of the stuff that i want right now (but if you do have the columbus, oh december of 1997 boot or the lexington, ky spring of 1998 boot, contact me. for now i just want an updated boot listing page.
i ate too many chocolate doughnut holes and now i can't sleep. i don't feel guilty or anything. thanks to diet coke (or who knows what) i have a quick metabolism. i'm not super skinny but i'm not overweight or even chubby. and that's how i like it. but i do need to make a mental note not to eat doughnut holes before bedtime on nights before work. by the way, if diaryland is giving you trouble, be sure to check out that new journal tomorrow. diaryland has been acting straaaange! it won't allow me to log in (to fix my own journal) and i can't even view anyone else's journal. Tuesday, February 20, 2001
A letter from the mayor of Uwajima, Ehime-ken, Japan Dear residents of Hawaii: As the Mayor and representative of the people of Uwajima, I kindly ask you to read the following message. There are the three main reasons why we are still strongly urging the U.S.authorities to continue it's search for the missing nine members of the Ehime-Maru, the Uwajima Fisheries High School training vessel, one week after the tragic collision with the USS Greenville occurred. 1. It is a fact that the bodies of drowning victims generally rise to the surface after 4 to 10 days. 2. It is the custom of Japanese fishermen to continue their search for those missing at sea for about two weeks. 3. Whereas in Christianity the soul of the person is considered of paramount importance, in Japan, the body takes a much more important role. In Buddhism, which is the predominant religious belief in Japan, when the funeral is held, the custom is to say a final farewell to the deceased before cremating them. The ashes are the final remains of the deceased and, as such, are cherished. Uwajima is a small, close-knit fishing community and such beliefs are still strongly held. Thus I, and the victim's families, urge you again to press for a further continuation of the search for the missing. After listening to the stories of the survivors, rescued thanks to the diligent work by the U.S. Coast Guard and Navy, even though two people, one high school student and one crew member, were seen on the deck as the accident happened, they have yet to be found. Please listen to the voices of the families and people of Uwajima who are hoping that those nine missing people, four of which are high school students, will still be rescued. If you see anything which you believe may be connected to the Ehime-Maru while you are out on the water, please report it to the appropriate authorities. We know that the people of America are dedicated believers in the value of the family and that you will empathize with us in trying to bring our loved ones home. The oceans of the world are all connected and flow freely as one great body of water. Furthermore, there is an old saying in Japan; "Hate not the people, but the crime." We hope and pray that this tragic incident does not harm the warm and truly special relationship that our two countries share. Yours Truly Hirohisa Ishibashi Mayor of Uwajima The citizens of Uwajima Monday, February 19, 2001
ohhhie. doug told me that diet coke increases ones metabolism. whoo hoo! now my fave soft drink will make me thinner!
random stuff: so i went to wisconsin today. wait, let me rephrase. i went to wisconsin this evening. i had decided that i needed to look for my eagle creek bag at this store in a wealthy, northshore suburb because it's been months since i've ordered it (to a closer store) and it still has not arrived. after getting completely lost (usually doesn't happen. i have a good sense of direction) and ending up halfway to the wisconsin boarder (i never did find the eagle creek store), i decided to go to the j crew outlet in southern wisconsin. i figured it'd be open to 9, right? wrong? i arrived at 5:45pm and they were cleaning up. looks like the j crew outlet in southern wisconsin is only open till 6! i quickly looked through the selection and purchased a pair of black buckle shoes for $5.25 (yah! that's right! $5.25!) seeing that i was in wisconsin, i decided that i needed to get some cheese to bring home (lame, i know). so i headed north up I-94. i saw a big, flashing neon sign which said "CHEESE" so i figured i'd found my place. now i don't know how the hell the exit ramps work in wisconsin, but after i exited 94, i sure as hell wasn't headed toward the cheese shop. i wound up on some dark county road which took me to farms. i couldn't find a place to turn around and this road was narrow. not to mention that there was this big ol' red pickup truck behind me. i kept trying to get the driver to pass me (by going reeeeeeally slooooow), but no luck. finally i found a driveway or something and i quickly turned in. luckily i wasn't gping too fast cause the driveway belonged to a stable or something which was closed. i almost rammed the gates. the pick up truck slowed down (probably to laugh at my sorry honda ass and to make sure that i didn't go flying through the gate). i backed up and turned around toward I-94 (i had forgotten about the cheese by then. i just wanted to get on 94 south toward home!) end of story? uhhh...no. i followed the signs to I-94 and got on the "ramp" to find out that it didn't connect to the interstate -- just to more country roads. so yet again i was lost on minor wisconsin roads. i followed the road praying that i would somehow wind up on 94 again. luckily the road did go straight into the highway and i got on going south. i'm home now. so much for my wisconsin adventure... so i was looking at websites of travel guidebook companies which i do not like. i just had to laugh out loud. from frommers: "You’ll never fall into the tourist traps when you travel with Frommer’s." BULLSHIT! all frommers includes in their guides are the tourist traps. but it gets even better: "In case you’re worried about Japan’s high prices, Frommer’s brings you dozens of listings for affordable accommodations and restaurants. Look for candid reviews of the best accommodations, from plush, high-tech business hotels to moderately priced bargains and authentic ryokan." sure... if you consider the tokyo hilton to be a budget hotel... uh huh...and that's why i'm a lonely planet girl... |
