all in all not a horrible day. actually, i'll be optimistic and go as far as to say it has been a good day. i know, i know, for my friends used to my pessimism, that is a shock. my mother and i went to a travel agency to price airfares to denmark. yah! denmark! i'm so excited. and then we had a really good lunch at an asian stir fry place (mmm...). now i gotta call JTB (Japan Travel Bureau) and figure out when i can pick up my rail pass. yippie yah! i'll be back in japan in 3 months!!!

SPEEDBUMP1064: speedbump from louisiana i'm fine IndigoKare: Good. SPEEDBUMP1064: read your profile very interesting IndigoKare: Thank you. SPEEDBUMP1064: bitches are good lol IndigoKare: Yes. SPEEDBUMP1064: [] be cool baby got to go if you ever want to talk email me SPEEDBUMP1064@AOL.COM IndigoKare: Excuse me? Do not call me "baby" SPEEDBUMP1064: YOUR EXCUSED IndigoKare: You do not know me and therefore have no right to refer to me as "baby." SPEEDBUMP1064: PLEASE GIRL GET A LIFE IndigoKare: Actually I believe you are the one who needs to learn some manners. Your chauvinism makes you look completely brainless and incapable of holding a normal conversation. SPEEDBUMP1064: GO PLAY GIRL YOUR WASTING MY TIME GO FIND ONE OF YOUR LITTLE BOYS TO PLAY WITH IndigoKare: Actually, you seem to be the one (between the two of us) who finds his only methood of pleasure from degrading the opposite sex. SPEEDBUMP1064: YOU MUST LIKEIT I CALLED YOU BABY BECAUSE YOU ACT LIKE ONE KID IndigoKare: You are childish and foolish. You obviously have had little or no dealings with women (brief sexual encounters do ot qualify). Also, I can tell by your grammar, vocabulary, and spelling skills that you are either a) 14 or b) highly unintelligent. IndigoKare: But I have a myriad of things to do this morning and do not have time to hold a conversation (as I see this is going nowhere) with someone of limited brain capacity. Goodbye. SPEEDBUMP1064: YOUR JUST STUPID IndigoKare: I believe you are referring to yourself in your above statement. Good day.
gotta love the nutcases on aol...

thanks to everyone who has visited my website and has e-mailed me. i'm working on responding to everyone. :-)
here is my political call to action. i e-mailed this to all of my liberal friends. if you happen to be conservative, you may want to skip reading this. i don't wanna see any nasty comments in my guestbook. you have been warned.
Date: Tue, 16 Jan 2001 00:01:56 -0800 (PST) From: Karen Subject: The Dubya Era is beginning soon...are you ready? To: sm****n@students.u***.edu, s0*.****kson@wittenberg.edu, b****nbl@aol.com, a*********sen@wittenberg.edu, s**.****ler@wittenberg.edu, d****7@yahoo.com, cla*******in@yahoo.com, m*******a@aol.com hey everyone,
i can not believe that the second bush years will begin in less than a week. it makes me sick to my stomach every time i think about it.
as most of you know, i am attending the inagural day protests in DC (more on that later). therefore i have been in contact with activists from all around the country and am a member of several e-mail lists. i wanted to pass some information that i have received. i'll try to be brief.
first of all, just because you can't be in DC on saturday, that doesn't mean that you can't voice your opposition to dubya. there will be protests and rallies all over the country (http://www.geocities.com/countercoup). i have heard confirmed reports of rallies in LA, san fran, and of course tallahassee. i know that on the 20th, there is a voter forum in chicago (it's a meeting, but in a way, it is still a protest because you are voicing your opposition to the electoral process) at depaul university. (for more information, visit http://homestead.com/trustthepeoplechi/details.html). i'm not sure what is happening in ohio (although that state somehow went to bush...), but i am there is most likely information (via some links) at the countercoup website.
but even if you can't go out and rally/protest, there is still work to be done. just by wearing an orange ribbon, you are voicing your opposition to our undemocratic election process.
and of course bush and his cronies need to be watched very closely after the inaguration. he has already broken his #1 promise of trying to unify the countrty. but by appointing someone like ashcroft to a position as important and powerful as attorney general, he is marginalizing liberals and moderates further. of course he'll start drilling up alaska and chipping away at civil rights.
on martin luther king day, i called all of my elected officials from every state i have ever lived in and urged them to vote aganist ashcroft. i reminded my more conservative senators of how many senators lost their bids for reelection after voting yes to confirm thomas to the supreme court. i strongly urge you all to pick up the phone and do the same. sadly, e-mail is not enough. while i was lobbying congress (reproductive rights) last year i learned that most e-mail is disregarded. to have your voice heard on capital hill you must pick up the phone. it sort of makes sense. e-mail is so easy. calling (or writing snail mail) takes more time and effort. also, e-mail can be mass generated, and everyone knows that it takes literally one click to send a message. please please please pick up the phone and call your senators. ashcroft is one of the biggest opponents of civil rights. it is said that he has ku klux klan connections. but even if that is just rumor, his voting record is abhorant. his religion gets in the way of his politics (he wants to make christian law national law). do you really want him representing you as attorney general? if not, please please please pick up the phone and call your senators' offices. dubya couldn't have possibly choosen someone worse for the job.
ok, now to the "fun." i will be in dc on the 20th protesting the stolen election. therefore i will miss dubya's "speech." (there's no way in hell i'll be getting close enough to hear) yes, i want to watch it. i enjoy correcting his grammar. (remember, 4 years of comedy. right, doug?) and i want to see what kind of bullshit his speech writers write up. and i also would like to watch the protests (damn, i could be on tv!). would someone who knows how to work their vcr (sorry mom), has cable, and actually has a vcr -- no dvd (yeah doug, that eliminates you!) mind recording C-SPAN for me from 11:30 EST until about 3:00pm EST on saturday? i would love you for life if you could. i will be attending both the votermarch and NOW protests (i will NOT miss the chance to hear patricia ireland speak!) and would love to see the rest of the coverage.
thanks, y'all! and remember it's only 4 years (2...the conservatives will be booted out of congress in 2002) and don't let this past election disenfranchise you (although that is hard). use your voice. let dubya know that you do not approve of what he is doing. urge others to do so as well. and if all else fails, consider this: roe v. wade was brought to the supreme court during another conservative presidency (nixon). good stuff can be accomplished under a right wing head of state. :-)
:-) karen
see, there are lots of things that you can do on the 20th, even if you can't be in DC.

so i spent the day trying to find an open travel agency (a lot of agencies are closed on mondays) that specializes in denmark and sweden. no luck. in fact the only place i found that was open was a latin america travel consolidator. great if i were venturing to argentina or costa rica, but for denmark and sweden, i was shit out of luck. as you can probably imply from this post, yes, i am planning a trip to denmark and sweden. actually, my mother and i are planning on going together in july (i have a while, but it is always good to shop around for good deals). the more and more i read about it, the more and more excited i feel.
oh wait...i already posted something about denmark (see below). oops. so i guess there really is no new news.
suzanne goes back to school today. i wish we got a chance to hang more over her break, but our schedules are so different. i'll see her soon enough, though.
and i got an e-mail from the DC protest organizer!!! wow! i can't believe that i'll be in DC on saturday protesting dubya and his stolen election! i am quite excited about that one as well.
i have been throwing around the idea of keeping an online journal while i am in japan (which could turn into a general travel journal). i know that i can never keep a daily online journal now, but a travel one may be feasible. it is my absolute dream to be a travel writer (i'd fuck being a professor any day to be a travel writer. anyone from lonely planet reading this? ;-) ) and keeping a jorunal would be good practice. not to mention a great way to remember my future travels. what do you think? by the way, i got this idea from nora's italian journals. nora is one of the best online diarists out there, and she is keeping a special journal about her life in italy. i'd love to do something like that about japan and wherever else i may venture out to (damn, i wish i had kept a journal from my previous travels to europe, japan, and australia. but now is as good a time as ever to start, right?). so anyway, i'll think about it more.
