my christmas/solstice list what i got: what i want: what i hope for: yeah...whatever...
ok, so i realize that it has been a loooooooong time since i have blogged. i don't really have a good excuse except for the fact that borders is extremely busy, and when i get home all i want to do is crash, not blog. the snow makes me even more exhausted. yes, what the news says is true. chicago has been zonked by snow this year. i hate snow. i hate driving and walking in it. i hate how goddamn cold it is. i don't even think snow's that beautiful. here in chicago, it has been one storm after another. they all seem to hit during rush hour as well. even if i don't get into graduate school, i am still moving far away from here to say adios to the snow. forever. this is all reminding me of a dar williams song line: it felt like a winter machine maybe everyone else isn't spring bound (yet) but you get the point. . . on a happier note, i have started planning my side trip to korea. the one must see for me is a trip to the DMZ, the 4km wide piece of no-man's land which stretches across the korean peninsula to seperate north korea from south korea. i want to see the sharp contrast of the free and the unfree worlds. i need an eye opening shocker. i need to see for myself how people suffer under a dictatorship. and after seeing it firsthand, i want to get off my ass and help do something about it. with amnesty international i have written many letters and read a lot of material about north korea. i want to see it for myself and do more. and since no one'll let my human rights activist ass into the country itself, the DMZ is as close as i'm gettin'. so yeah, it looks like i'll need a cheap flight from tokyo to seoul and an organized tour (that is the only way to do it. and they're costly. but this is worth it.) to the DMZ. time to start booking... |
