well, kiddos, i am off tomorrow morning. this may be my last post for a while. won't you miss me? (and this is pale in comparision to next friday's leaving for europe...) maybe i'll try to post from wherever this weekend. my schedule (in case you need to know): thrus- prospective graduate student at u of illinois nice weekend i have planned. of course next week i have to take the gre. fuck. but then it's off to london and paris! so anyway, i may post this weekend. i may not. i'll be out partying it up with my college buds!
what a great day. great great day. my allergies: much much much better. all of my "old peoples'" medicine seem to be helping! i even went bike riding. yee haw! and i spoke to amy christiansen. she is coming to the columbus indigo girls show with becky and i. it should be a fucken blast (not to mention that it will be excellent to see her again.) and tomorrow i leave for university of illinois. i get to see suzanne. then on friday, it's off to wittenberg. great day and this upcoming weekend will rock!
here is my concert review as posted to the indigo girls list: all i can say is "i am amazed." amazed at the entire honor the earth becky and i arrived at the chicago theater at around 4:30pm. we heard later (as we were walking around downtown trying to grab a bite to eat), we let's see, the actual show....as many of you know, this year the main issues david crosby was up next. so funny. and talented. he made a comment that after david, there was an intermission. we were reminded to fill out our anyway...i am digressing. after the speakers, jackson browne took to the the girls were on after david crosby. the setlist: gone again, the wood after the show, becky and i waited by the busses. we had to talk to sulli anyway, what a GREAT night! this was one of the best shows i have ever seen,
OMG...did i forget to mention that winona laduke spoke?! i think i am going to go green and vote for nader. i am still torn (on one hand i love nader and on the other i HATE bush!), but nader is starting to look even more and more attractive. Tuesday, October 17, 2000
the indigo girls/hte show was fucken AMAZING! sulli rocks. omg, does sulli rock. and i *finally* got my cover to nomads*indians*saints signed by both amy and emily! (sulli even signed the back! all in all one amazing show. i will post the setlist tomorrow! can't wait till columbus!!!
tonight tonight we see honor the earth! david crosby, jackson browne, and the indigo girls! i am so excited i am shaking! having becky here is excellent! we have been getting all psyched all day together!!! all the activism, especially with the election so near, is going to rock. and i can't wait to see all the musicians! yee haw!!!
i suppose it is officially the 17th... that means... can't you tell that i am excited? becky is here and it has been a blast. TONIGHT is the big night! amy and emily live. life is sweet. we got all psyched up by watching indigo girls videos and discussing amy ray and emily saliers over dinner. fuck yeah! what a great dinner conversation. we also perfected our note requesting a special song. ha. i am not giving y'all any hints as to which song we are requesting. but our note is way cool. (even though we could not find a kickass replacement for "thrilled." hehe.) omg, i am soooooo psyched... Monday, October 16, 2000

so i wanted to post some thoughts on the situation in the middle east. it is 1am. i should be in bed. i am sick as a dog. but i just woke up from a nap. damn, i thought i'd just sleep through the night. i thought those strong pills would knock me out. why the hell am i up? oh yeah, so the middle east. ok, as a disclaimer i know a lot of people will disagree with me. fine. i have my opinions on this issue (as i do on every other issue). i think that both parties are terribly wrong. the israelis aren't the "good guys", nor are the palestinians. they have both committed serious crimes. human rights have been violated from both sides. it is a war of fanatics. the fanatics are the ones calling the shots. there are plenty of israelis and palestinians who just want peace. but unfortuantly, the fanatics continue to bomb, strike, and burn. this is a dangerous cycle, for i can forsee no end in sight. there will always be fanatics. how i think this should be solved? ("ok, karen, you are president of the united states, what would you do?" -- my mom) well, i feel that we need negotiations. and the mediators can not and should not favor anyone side. the united states has a vested interest with israel. we are allied with them. i am glad israel is our ally. but given those circamstances, the united states should not be the "third party" mediator. i can not stress this enough. i am not exactly where the un's interests lie, but an international group like the un should be the mediator. if the united states acts as the sole mediator, the palestinians will think (and rightfully so) that they are getting the short end of the stick. i would love to see an end to this violence. it breaks my heart to see innocent palestian children injured and to watch how anti-semitism is on the rise both in the middle east and around the world. there is no reason that a jewish school should be blown up, or that jews should be harassed as they walk to temple. they never asked the israeli soldiers to fire at innocent palestinians. and people of arab backgrounds shouldn't be discriminated against. this shit ain't their fault. the most uplifting thing i saw on the news was a segment about a jewish/arab allience/understanding. a mixed group of jews and arabs in san mateo (california) is getting together to exchange thoughts on the situation. they view each other as human beings, not as jews or arabs. in the midst of all this shit, they are retaining their friendship while having a cross-cultural dialogue. why can't we have more of that?
damnit... i just tried to post my thoughts on the situation in the middle east. but then my damn computer froze. maybe later. right now i am just a bit too peeved to type.
i just got in from seeing christine kane. she is awesome! if you are a fan of women's (womyn's) music, folk music, singer/songwriters, etc, check her out! |
