Welcome To The Weird Wars Of The Undertaker

Ever since his abrupt role reversal in the WWF a couple of years ago, the six-foot-eight-inch, 312-pound, zombie-like wrestler who answers to the moniker of the Undertaker, has taken the role of resident exorcist. Whenever a gladiator arrives on the scene with a demonic twist or a monstrous disposition. The cool ghoul is called upon to enter into another of his personal weird wars.

The grim reaper of the grapping game began along this peculiar path with his first fiendish feud against none other than Jake "the snake" Roberts, the WWF's answer to Bela Lugois! If you recall, Roberts was primed and ready to sneak attack Randy "Macho Man" Savage and the lovely Elizabeth from behind the locker room curtains during a televised event. Surprisingly, the solemn superstar intervened, and, much to the delight of mat fans everywhere, a new and incredibly unusual anti-hero was born!

Roberts quickly found himself overmatched, and he became the first of the Undertaker's "dearly departed" from WWF turf. After banishing "the snake", the master of the tombstone found himself as the promoter's top choice for every conceivable mat monster that rumbled his way on to the scene.

Although they will never go down in the annals of wrestling history as classic confrontations, the Undertaker-Giant Gonzalez grudge matches were not without their appeal. Each time they squared off in center ring, you felt as if you were watching a battle of epic proportions in the tradition of King Kong versus Godzilla. There wasn't much in the way of takedowns and wristlocks, but it was nonstop action nonetheless.

While the series of matches never really seemed to reach a dramatic conclusion, it was fun while it lasted. To the credit of seven-foot-seven-inch Giant Gonzalez, he has made tremendous strides since leaving the National Basketball Team of Argentina to embark on a grabbling career in the U.S. approximately four years ago. Clearly. His matches against the ghoulish gladiator have added greater polish to his ever-improving ring tactics.

In recent outings, the crypt-keeper crippler has split his energies into feuds with a couple of heavies… and I do mean HEAVIES!

The HULKING mister (Curtis) Hughes was an impregnable brick wall that few, if any, were able to overtake, but the dark avenger of the rasslin` ring forged onward until the ebony giant became nothing more than another feather in his mortician's cap.

Next in line comes, the sushi bar that walks like a man, Yokozuna, the 500-pound-plus-pounder who has squashed (literally) the biggest and best that Federation has thrown his way. If the Undertaker can get past this, the biggest of the big men, there is another newcomer on the horizon… the Vampire Warrior (direct from a successful USWA stint). At the rate the WWF is going, every wrestling event for the next few months is going to seem like Halloween!
