Shogun: Total War

  Shogun is a realtime war strategy simulation, based on the "Sengoku Jidai" or "Age of the Country at War" period of Japanese history. During this time rival factions, led by their Daimyo (feudal warlord), battled for military supremacy. Ultimately, one Daimyo became Shogun (military dictator of all Japan).

Some (impressive) visuals from the game:

Although the game isn't released yet, there is lots of information to be found on the web, check the links section for related sites.

Daimyo Kansuke review of the battle simulator:
Received the game on 2000-06-15.
After the installation, which went without any problems, I had some problems setting up the 3D hardware. I found that although the game states that it is using a software renderer, it is in fact using the hardware renderer.

The graphical UI is impressive and completely in style. Logging on onto the EA network is also without any problems.
Until now I have played many, many hours and the program did never crashed. Unlike many other games which I have played for long times.

I must say I can not give an full objective review about this game, because I am a serious fan of this period in Japanese history. But never the less, my expectations were very high.
And yes! Everything is here.

The object of this simulator is simple (is it?): Conquer all of Japan, and you will be the shogun (the supreme leader of Japan) To achieve this you have the ability to build castles, training facilities, sea ports etc etc in an (great) overview (map if you like) of Japan. To conquer the provinces you must attack other Daimyo (clan leaders) either by letting the computer fight it out for you, or play by yourself using a very well layout 3D battle simulator. This simulator is the heart of this game and for now I can not find anything wrong with it. It's artificial intelligence is excellent!

Since the old days, and I have played games since the very start (on a Atari ping pong machine decades ago) I have seen rarely good games like these. Maybe saying it's just a game is too little to describe this piece of software, which also can be used to learn some things about the medievel history of Japan.

My rating? => EXCELLENT ! ......

Making such a great piece of software deserves that you BUY THE GAME !
