Remembrance...
of Richard

I saw a faded butterfly
With tattered wings of sunlit gold.
Memories of past springtimes spent
Were used to feed his youthful soul.
His painful flight of happiness
Looked so graceful and yet serene.
To watch him waver through the air
Was to know all his eyes had seen.
I watched this lonely butterfly
With my eyes unfocused by youth.
Over looking the beauty inside,
I would not listen to the truth.
He soared so proudly through the air
On gentle gust from angel wings.
To see the beauty in his flight
Was to hear all the Muses sing.
He gazed upon the flowers below
With longing and lust in his eyes.
Then flew beyond the setting sun
As silently I waved good-bye.
Now my heart is full of sadness
For this butterfly flew away.
Memories of this springtime spent
Are locked within my heart to stay.
