Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN)

The Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) was one of the most advanced navies during WW2. IJN was the only navy in the world that had the heaviest ship with the most powerful armament, also they developed new concepts such as the hybrid carriers. Although these technologies and concepts had already been investigated by other navies particularly the Italian Navy, these ideas were never put into practice except for the IJN. It is perhaps quite astonishing in the sense that for such a small country like Japan could produce these highly advanced technological warships in its time.

Although the IJN believed that the war they promoted would be a short one, five long war years has forced them to exceed their industrial capacity. Nevertheless, the IJN introduced short-term programs to offset the shortage of ships, especially after the devastating lost at Midway, in the means of converting merchant ships into small carriers. These short-term solutions was never processed by any other navies during the war. Thus it could be said that the IJN was also one of the most flexible navies until Japan eventually ran out of raw materials at the end of the war.

All information of the ships are constructed in a simple order. Excellent photographs are provided with simple point form on descriptions for each ship's services history.
