Barenaked Cities

This is a list of some of BNL’s biggest fan base areas. You will find information about each city as well as their official websites and other city related websites that will describe that cities nightlife, events as well as a lot of other city information.

Buffalo

BNL has called Buffalo NY the buckle of the Barenaked belt. Buffalo is known for being the first area to play BNL on its radio stations and it was also the location of BNL’s first U.S. concert (at the Icon Nightclub). When Barenaked cd’s are released most of the record stores hold midnight on sales.

Barenaked ladies visit Buffalo on average 3 times a year to play at various venues such as HSBC Arena and Shea’s PAC. Barenaked Ladies performed their BNL2k show here on 12/31/99. Buffalo is continuously one of the top 5 areas for BNL record sales per capita. Plus BNL loves playing here because we are their home away from home. Being we are so close to Toronto their family and friends often venture down for their shows here.

Boston

Boston is known for drawing huge crowds to BNL shows. They consistently sell out 2 nights there were they don’t anywhere else. At a radio station promotion a few years ago they drew nearly 40,000 people who came to see BNL perform about 4 songs the day before their show. BNL performed their NYE and NYD show there 12/31/2000 and 1/1/2001.

They are the only city to rival Buffalo for the amount of BNL shows that happen every year. Boston radio stations have embraced BNL and play their songs on a regular rotation due to high demand.

New York City

New York City has slowly grown to become one of the biggest markets for BNL. They started playing NYC at small club venues and worked their way up to bigger venues and recently played at the mecca of arenas, Madison Square Garden.

If I Had a $1,000,000 is now used for the NYS lotto and it helped spark an increase in sales of BNL’s first Album, Gordon to near record levels for any city. BNL is also a favorite on famous NYC Tv shows such as Regis and Kelly, Late Night with Conan O’Brien and Saturday Night Live.

Toronto

Toronto is the birthplace and home of BNL. This is the city that gave BNL all of their first big breaks. Playing at local venues and getting great reviews from the local press really shot BNL to the top of the Canadian market.

BNL dropped a bit in popularity in Toronto because they were overexposed but the past 4 years we have seen their rise back to the top in this great city. Many of BNL’s references in their songs revolve around this city. Plus being they still live in the area there’s always the off chance of running into one of the band members at the Eaton center or somewhere else around town.

Ottawa

Ottawa fans have always been big on BNL. They embraced the Ladies when they first started out and never let go. BNL consistantly makes Ottawa one of their Canadian stops on all of their tours.

Ottawa is known of their festivals, especially their winter festivals , which BNL have played a few times over the past 10 years or so.

Philadelphia

Not only is Philly one of the biggest supporters of BNL, it's also where I lived most of my life. Philly has seen BNL rise from a band that plays in small clubs, to a band that played in 2,000 capacity venues to a band that can sell out the F.U.C.(First Union Center) anytime they'd like.

BNL played there NYE show there in 1999. BNL almost shut down South street after Stunt was release by having an autograph signing at Tower Records that turned into a mob scene. And even though Philly fans have boo'd Santa Claus out of Veterans stadium they are one of the loudest most supportive group of BNL fans on the planet.
