From The Ladies Room:
BNLs poised to entertain thousands folks at the Olympics!
The Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the Olympic Winter Games of 2002 (SLOC) today announced the headline talent for the nightly celebration at Olympic Medals Plaza (OMP), which will be the heart of Olympic community celebrations.
A total of 16 bands will perform for one hour on select nights at the Olympic Medals Plaza, which is open February 9 through 24.
Here?s how the Ladies bio looked in the press release:
"Barenaked Ladies is a humorous folk-pop band from Toronto, Canada. Through constant touring and strong word-of-mouth, the band has built a loyal following throughout North America. The Barenaked Ladies first formed in 1989 and released several independent cassette tapes before hitting it big in their homeland with a 1991 self-titled tape. The tape was the first independent release to reach the Top 20 and go platinum in Canada."
The Plaza is located between North and South Temple and 200 and 300 West will be open nightly from 5:30 to 11:00 p.m. The Plaza will accommodate about 20,000 spectators per night, which is the largest audience capacity at an Olympic medals celebration.
Following is a schedule of Olympic Medals Plaza entertainment as we understand it:
February 9 Dave Matthews Band
February 11 Foo Fighters
February 13 Barenaked Ladies
February 14 Sheryl Crow
February 15 Smash Mouth
February 16 Brooks & Dunn
February 17 Train
February 19 Creed
February 20 Marc Anthony
February 23 'NSYNC
February 24 Martina McBride
February 25 The Temptations-for Team 2002 members only*
*Additional talent will be announced in January 2002.
Entry into Olympic Medals Plaza is free, however a ticket is required.
Ticket distribution will take place at all Smith'sTix outlets on three individual dates; January 10, 14 and 15 starting at 7:00 a.m. In addition, a limited number of tickets will be available at Salt Lake City area Hallmark Gold Crown? stores. The process for getting tickets to an OMP night will be announced at a later date.
Tickets for this event will *not* be available via the fan club.

Rumors are flying. As everyone knows the only BNL show scheduled after NYE is the Olympic show. A lot of people have stated BNL will be taking a year off to work on a new album and relax (which they deserve). Others state that BNL will be doing a Summer tour to support an upcoming new release album. And otehrs have gone to say that by mid next year they will release a rarities album and do a short tour supporting that album before heading to the studio to put out a new release album by the end of 2002. And some say they will only be taking a few weeks off from the road to relax for the holidays and spend time with their families and then will continue to support the Greatest Hits album.
Truthfully, I have no clue as to what they are doing. My usual reliable source hasn’t heard a word. My best guess (and it is only a guess) would be that they will take a few weeks off and then continue to support the GH, Only because they didn’t hit a few of the major BNL cities(IE: Buffalo). I personally hope that is the case because I’ve been waiting since before Stunt was released to go to a BNL show where only great songs are played as I am not as big a fan of Stunt and Maroon as I am the older albums.
I’ll keep you posted as soon as I get any real information regarding this situation.
