A Free BNL Show!
Gotta Love Corporate America!
(a.k.a. Bryant Park, NYC, 4.23.2002)
The venerable cause of Intel's new chip caused the boys of BNL to break away from their "year off" (and their Macs [DCP note: Look at the new I-Mac! Just LOOK at it! Drool.]) to head to NYC to play a free corporate gig for Intel.
DCP's good friend, The Dating Goddess, was kind enough to allow Mace to hear some of the show via cellphone (and even more importantly, to hear her singing along. Who the hell needs Steven Page when Stacey Kane's in the house?!).
But this all really just begs the real question at hand. When's some nice corporation gonna pay the band lots of money to play a free concert in Chicago? Hm? Probably not Arthur Anderson...
DCP received a synopsis of some of the concert highlights from Poopwatcher Anne Marie.
"Ty had on his big rock-star sunglasses and black leather jacket with a maroon shirt on. I can't remember what pants he had on, but he was wearing pants!
...they start the next song, which is supposed to be 'Life in a Nutshell' and everyone, except our favorite drummer [DCP note: our fave drummer?! Stewart Copeland was there?!!!], was playing that song. Tyler was playing 'Falling For the First Time' instead. So Ed turns to Ty (still playing 'Life') and just watched him until Ty realizes he is not in tune with everyone else!! Finally Ty picks up and goes into 'Life,' but by this time, the whole band is cracking up and Steve messed up the whole first verse! "
"After that song, they joked about the orange and blue suit guys again. Ty said he wanted to make sure that those guys gave the harnesses back to the HS marching band that they stole them from. Then Ty said something like, 'Hey Ed! Should I play the song that I was supposed to play now but that I played too early?' Ed said, 'That would be a great idea Ty!' So then they played 'Falling for the first time'.
At some point during one of the banters, Ty just yelled out BALLS! Steve and Ed just turned to him and were like 'huh?' My friend Alison who always has her 'Balls' sign at the ready quickly held it up and Ty struggling for some explanation looked up and said - 'I was just commenting on that sign!' "
Ty pretty much silenced the crowd with that one. Then Ed joked about having to take a moment of silence at each show for Ty's sense of humor. And Ty added that his sense of humor had long since departed! [DCP Note: This fact" was uncovered a few months ago.]
...Ty did his 'Turn Me Loose' thing at the end of 'Alcohol' like he did last summer. It was cool to see that again!
The Band played for about 75 minutes.
The band did a lot of talking in between songs, which was a very good thing.
The people in the Intel VIP section were not into the band at all and more attention was paid to The Dell guy, Steve, than to the band on stage.
The rest of the crowd was very into the band.
The band realized who the real fans were and played more to them than the VIP’s.
For some reason the crowd was very far away from the stage.
The show was recorded for what will be a web broadcast soon.

is the new website for the barenaked bash. It looks as if Boyces Road featuring Matthew Page will be playing at the event.
