YELLOW SONGS & POEMS

Sensory

Give each child a good sized lump of shaving cream.
Sprinkle a few drops of yellow food coloring on top.
You can extend the activity by waiting a few minutes and
adding a few drops of red to make orange. Blue to make green etc...

Place corn kernels in a tray or bowl.

Yellow Goop:
Mix 1 cup cornstarch.
One cup water.
Several drops of yellow food coloring.
Mix well.

Put many yellow toys in the water play table, wash tub,
or bath tub if done at home.

Make Yellow Playdough

Yellow Math

Using yellow poster board cut out all the major shapes
in duplicate. Have the kids match the shapes.

Using colored blocks, stack ten blocks on top
of each other. Make number ten a yellow block.

Cut 20 small yellow felt squares, circles, triangles etc...
Get a felt board and count the squares as each child puts up one.

String beads on a string and count how many are yellow.

Yellow Science:

Paper Towel Dip:
Fold a paper towel in half several times.
Dip in red water and then in yellow water.
Open towel slowly and orange designs will appear.

Carnation Coloring:
Put a carnation (or any white flower) in water
that has been colored with yellow food color.
The flower will absorb the liquid and turn yellow
around the edges.

Yellow Soap Crayons:
Measure one cup of mild powdered laundry
soap. Add one tablespoon of food coloring.
Add water by the teaspoon until the soap is
in liquid form. Stir well. Pour the soap into ice
cube trays. Set in a sunny area and dry until hard.
Soap crayons can be used in the sink or tub too!

Arts & Crafts

Corncob Painting:
Cover the bottom of a cookie sheet with thick yellow
tempera paint. Using a corncob roll in the paint, then onto paper.

Yellow Designs:
Find as many yellow pieces of yarn, lace, ribbon,
felt, paper etc... Glue onto heavy paper. Trim with
yellow pieces of ric-rack.

Yellow Glitter Pictures:
Use yellow food coloring in white glue.
Spread glue on paper and sprinkle with yellow glitter.

Yellow Soap Crayon-Wire Pictures:
Use the crayons you made on black paper.
Rub sideways across the paper.
Take a wire scrub like you would use in your sink
to make designs on the crayon rubbings.

Yellow Hand Print Flowers:
Have one child paint another child's hands yellow
with thick paint. Press hands down on paper.
After the paint has dried have the child glue a green
strip of paper to the flower. Kids can cut these out the day before.

Yellow Circle Games

Find three yellow objects. Make sure they are all
different. Place them in front of you and then have
all the children hide their eyes. Take one away.
When they open their eyes they guess which one is missing.
Make the game harder by adding more yellow objects.

Yellow Cooking Activity

Banana Bobs:
Cut bananas into chucks and dip into honey.
Next roll into wheat germ. Use large toothpicks to pick them up to eat.

Cornbread Cupcakes:
1 cup flour
1 cup yellow cornmeal
2 tablespoons sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1/4 cup oil
1 egg, beaten

Mix all together and fill each cup cake
tin with mixture. Spread with yellow margerine.
