BUILDING FROM SCRATCH

Why build from scratch ???

1. Its cheap
2. Its challenging
3. Its cheap

Here are some ideas for parts for scratch building. These are just a few, and I will add more when I get the time.

Tubes, Tubes and more Tubes................

This is usually my starting point. The tubes on the right are a collection of Post Packs (90mm ID and 60mm ID), Christmas Paper Tubes, Fabric Rolls (42mm ID), Used Fax Tubes, Cling Wrap Tubes, etc... (note the paint can is for size referance only)

I find the Post Pack Tubes to be the best. They are rigid, spiral wound, and cheap (under AU3$).
Nose Cones.............

These are difficult to make from scratch. I started out making my own (rolled paper, turned balsa, etc),but have since changed my ways. I have located a local wood turner and he makes them for me at a very reasonable price. The cones on the right are made from Pine. To reduce the weight, I bore out the center. I use these for long thin rockets, where the added weight of the timber actually helps move the CoG forward.
More Nose Cones.............These cones are made from cedar and are relatively light. They have OD of 60mm to 90mm and weigh between 100g to 190g.
