I discovered the way to transfer stories I've done onto DVD, then convert them to video files, then into internet friendly "Real Media" files. They are still a bit big, but easily viewed over a decent internet connection.
Here are some of the stories I've done while at WVEC in Norfolk, Virginia.
Navy Christmas 2005 I had the opportunity to go to sea on deployment day aboard the USS Austin with reporter Carl Leimer. We would head south along the Outer Banks to Moorehead City, North Carolina, where the amphibious ship would take on Marines before heading to Iraq.
Deployment day was an emotional time and the 2-day adventure was a rewarding experience for me, being a former boatswain's mate. I hadn't been to sea on a Navy surface ship since I was in the Navy some 12 years back.
Here are the three stories we did that aired in WVEC's 60-minute special, "Navy Christmas."

JOPLIN WORK
These video samples were recorded from S-VHS, edited in Pinnacle's Studio DC-10, AfterEffects, and/or AVIO, and then rendered in RealProducer so they would be smaller web files. The quality and resolution has diminished somewhat, but they give you an idea of some of the work I have done.
summer
a documentary by Jason Walsh
(4.5 MB/ Real Media)
This is the open for a documentary I was tasked with in the summer of 2001. It's about 2:40 in length to the sounds of the Mamas and the Papas and was done entirely in after effects. It's a big file to download but it's worth the wait.
This was a chance to experiment and be creative with some video ideas I had, while spending a day on the playground with my kids. We had fun doing it and I was very happy with how it turned out.
Locals Only open
(3.2 MB/ Real Media)
The open for my KGCS-TV local music TV show that aired in Joplin, MO from 2000-2002. Bands included in the show's opening montage include Last Call, The Camorra, Yellobean, Powerstall, Backseat Girls, The Karltens, and Dementia Precox, and the soundtrack, courtesy of Last Call, is the intro to "Turncoat," from Last Call's self-titled first CD.
On The Road: The Lakers/Wizards in Kansas City
(7.7 MB/ Real Media)
A still-image music montage to the tune of House of Pain's "Jump Around," from my first experience as a field journalist in 1999. As a representative of Missouri Southern's newspaper, The Chart, I took a road trip to Kansas City for a preseason exhibition game at Kemper Arena between the Los Angeles Lakers and Washington Wizards. It was Phil Jackson's 2nd game as head coach and the beginning of the Lakers first championship season. Look for the priceless picture of my son, Christian, with the Laker girls.
KGCS-TV Graveyard ID
30-second station commercial
(1.9 MB/ Real Media)
Shot during a random video production field trip with my fellow college classmate, Flo from KC. A cool little station ID shot on Super-VHS and edited in Pinnacle's Studio DC-10, at a graveyard in Joplin, MO.
Joplin Police Department Hostage Intervention Training
Feature-news package shot with KSNF-TV reporter Courtney Cullor
(2.1 MB/ Real Media. courtesy of KSNF-16 )
(the upload ran the video and audio a little "hot" on this piece. In the future, I will try to re-render this video in a little better quality)
Filipino Martial Arts with Grandmaster Ernesto Presas from the Phillipines
(8 MB/ Real Media)
Very large file...Th first nat-sound package I did with the shutter adjusted to catch trails from the sticks' movements.
This was a cool package I did for my friends, Mike Denny and Jeff Sprawls, in conjunction with the International Philippine Martial Arts Federation. Grandmaster Presas and Master Steve Todd were a very helpful part of this production.
For my colleagues and professional photographers and editors out there, yes, there are more "jump cuts" in this piece than I can count, purposely so, and I think they work for the piece...makes it jarring...
(the upload ran the video and audio a little "hot" on this piece. In the future, I will try to re-render this video in a little better quality)
Precious Moments Fountain of Angels
(2.8 MB/Real Media) One minute montage from Sam Butcher's Fountain of Angels at the Precious Moments compound in Carthage, MO.
(the upload ran the video and audio a little "hot" on this piece. In the future, I will try to re-render this video in a little better quality)
