Washington D.C.
So we decided a trip to DC was in order...
We, being Christian, Katryn, Mike and I, loaded up and hit the road at 7am and were in view of the Pentagon by 10:30.
It was amazing to see where the plane hit and how much they've done...you couldn't tell that something like that happened unless you knew, which we all do...
ARLINGTON
Arlington National Cemetary is an amazing place. You can feel the history there, with a great deal of sadness, as you look at the rows and rows of gravestones that seem to go on forever, and know they are men and women who died at war. We visited the Kennedy memorials and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier before hitting downtown. It was a truly moving experience...

ARRIVAL DOWNTOWN
After our visit to Arlington, we drove downtown, passing the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, and Capitol Hill. Parking was near impossible but we found a lot near the Jefferson Memorial, where the picture above was taken. We trekked across a couple of fields and made our way to the Washington Monument.

On this extremely hot day, everyone was ready to fall out after our treks through Arlington and from the Washington Monument to Capitol Hill, so we jumped in a cab to the White House. It was amazing to be standing there...the pictures speak volumes....

THE LONG WALK TO THE LINCOLN MEMORIAL
The walk to Lincoln Memorial is a decent haul, but even moreso on a hot July day. The picture above shows the kids wading in the Reflecting Pool at the Lincoln Memorial. It's one of the favorie pictures I took. While looking at this, I can think of the famous Martin Luther King speech and hippy rallies in the 60s that saw people lined across the pool.
A very historic place indeed...

It was a truly great adventure...we were in the car, on the road, and home on the beach by sunset...If you ever have the chance, do the DC thing...you won't regret it...
