Chapter 4 ~If you come back~

Shinya picked up his animal taxi and smiled at Puppy. The dog was lying lazily inside the box, looking back at its owner with disinterest. Shinya knew that it hated being kept in this box, but he had no choice since pets are not allowed to roam on the bullet train. Sighing, Shinya put the box onto the seat beside him and stared at the crowd in the train station sadly. Puppy had not been eating well lately and Shinya knew it was throwing its tantrums. Ever since that day in the studio, Puppy had been acting strange. Shinya knew that it missed Die… Just like how he, himself had been missing the guitarist. Maybe it had been a bad choice to bring Puppy along with him that day in the studio, but he didn’t know where else he could leave his little dog…

Flashback to 2 days ago…

“C’mon, Puppy, stop doing this to me!!” Shinya screamed at his beloved pet for the umpteenth time.

Puppy ignored its owner as it sat stubbornly on Shinya’s bed, perched in front of that framed up photograph… The photograph that Shinya had taken together with the members of La Sadies. Die was smiling happily with his arms around Shinya’s shoulders in the photo, while Shinya just looked at the camera without any expression as usual. Kyo was standing next to Shinya holding a fork in his mouth and his other hand with a steak knife. His mouth was still stained with the ketchup from his meal. They were in the middle of their lunch when Kaoru suggested that they take a photo together that particular day. Shinya remembered how Kyo had eaten all their fries while the other members were in the washroom and Die and Kaoru almost stamped on the little devil for eating their share. Kyo had ran behind Shinya for protection and Shinya had told the two guys to stop being so childish. Die had sulked after that and Kaoru had glared at Kyo for the rest of the meal. Sometimes, Shinya felt that the other guys were more like babies rather than older than he is. It always seemed as though Kyo was forever getting into trouble with Die and Kaoru and Shinya always had to be the middleman to resolve all the conflicts. But no matter how often the three of them bickered, everyone loved each other’s company. All four of them were really happy back then and to Shinya, it was the happiest period of his life. And most importantly, there was Die…

Shinya had always admired Die. He wasn’t sure if it’s just a silly crush or he’s really serious about it all, but he really cared a lot about Die and totally treasured the times he spent with Die back then. But Shinya knows that Die likes girls… that was why Shinya tried his best to ignore the guitarist, so that he won’t fall deeper for the guitarist. Die didn’t help him much though, he seemed to always be teasing Shinya, trying all ways to irritate Shinya and sometimes, Shinya wondered if Die really hated him. That was partly the reason why even when La Sadies disbanded, Shinya had not told Die of his feelings for the guitarist. Yet, when Die called him that day to get him to join their new band, Shinya thought he might have a chance with the guitarist afterall… Even if he doesn’t, at least he would be able to spend more time with Die and the friends he loves, the only friends who ever treated him nicely and gave him a lot of respect. But when Kyo told him all that the other day at the studio, Shinya felt as if all his hopes had been dashed… And Puppy wasn’t making it any better for him.

“Fine, if you’re not going to eat, then suit yourself. I’ll just place it here, eat when you finish sulking.” Shinya said as he put Puppy’s food on the floor near the bed and went out of the room, sighing.

End flashback

Shinya looked at the people walking by him and tried his best to ignore the guy sitting beside him. The young man was a little bit older than he is and he has been chattering non-stop to Shinya ever since the moment he sat down beside the auburn haired drummer. Shinya knew what the guy was up to, he was trying to pick him up… Shinya was used to it all, such situations happen all the time anyway. It doesn’t matter even if he had told them in their faces that he’s male, most of them still continue to make their advances towards him. Like his ex-employer… It made Shinya sick just to think of that oyaji. He would always creep up behind Shinya when Shinya was sorting the goods in the store and grope Shinya’s behind or put his arms around Shinya’s waist and pull Shinya to him. Shinya had forced himself to put it with it all, he needed the job afterall. But the limit came when he stuck his hand up Shinya’s thigh and attempted to grope Shinya there! Shinya wanted to kick the man’s ass at that very moment, but told himself that it was not worth it getting in trouble with the law for bashing someone up, so he simply pushed the old pervert onto the floor and stormed out of the store. He changed his job the very next day, even though the pay was less at the rental store, at least he didn’t have to put up with being molested! However, those guys who came over to rent the pornographic tapes were always looking at him lecherously like he’s some prey. He hated that, but there was nothing he could do.

“What do you say if you come over to my house today?”

Shinya remained uninterested and looked at his watch. He was stunned when the man suddenly grabbed his thigh with one hand and started groping Shinya’s chest with the other.

“WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING!?”

Shinya looked up in surprise before he could even push the lecher away. He couldn’t believe his eyes as he stared at the red-head, dumbfounded, while Puppy began barking excitedly in his box upon hearing that voice.

“It’s none of your business, dammit!” The man who had just molested Shinya stood up and glared angrily at the intruder.

“Not if you touch HIM! Then it’s definitely MY business!” Die screamed in the man’s face as he grabbed the collar of the guy.

Shinya turned all red as he realized that a crowd was gathering around the three of them. It was as if the whole station was watching them. Standing up from his seat, Shinya went up and stopped Die’s hand before he could hit the pervert and then he pushed the man to the floor with little as he pulled Die’s hands away from the man’s collar.

“Scram. Just go now before he hurts you.” Shinya said coldly, staring at the man on the floor.

Cursing under his breath, the man got up from the floor and left as the crowd started to disperse too.

“How could you let him touch you like that!?!?!?!?” Die thundered as Shinya turned to look at him.

“I was about to push him off.” Shinya said a-matter-of-factly as he walked back to his seat.

“Then stop dressing like that so that these people won’t come and start pawing all over you!”

“What’s wrong with MY dressing!?” Shinya said as he glared at Die angrily.

“It’s…” Die began as he tried to find faults with Shinya’s dressing to tell Shinya how provocative he looked. Yet, he couldn’t… Shinya was just dressed in a simple T-shirt and a pair of jeans with his lovely auburn hair tied up in a bun with streaks of hair falling, framing his delicate face. Die simply couldn’t tell what was wrong with Shinya’s dressing that was making the guys try to hit on the drummer. He knew perfectly well that those people were trying to hit on Shinya only because the drummer was too stunningly beautiful.

“Well!?” Shinya demanded as he glared unhappily at Die.

“You should wear a cap, so that people know you’re a guy!” Die blurted out, knowing how ridiculous he must have sounded.

“Well, then I’m sooooo sorry that I don’t own a single cap!” Shinya said as he turned away from Die angrily.

The both of them sat in silence for a while with only the noise of the people walking about and Puppy’s barking around them.

“What are you doing here?” Shinya whispered coldly as he turned to Puppy’s box released the dog from the box.

The moment he was let out, Puppy jumped happily into Die’s arms and started licking Die’s face.

“Gee, how are you, little thing?” Die said as he took the animal, looking into its eyes. The dog barked in response and Die laughed as he put it on his lap, stoking its head as Puppy rested and whimpered contentedly.

“Kyo told us that you were leaving today, so everyone decided to come and look for you.” Die said, answering Shinya’s question.

“Sou… then where are the others?”

“Kaoru had gone to the washroom and Toshiya had to accompany Kyo to get some food ‘coz the little devil’s hungry again.”

“I see…”

“Shinya?”

“Nani?”

“Come back? We really need you.”

“You’ve got yourselves a new drummer, why would you need me?”

“No we have not!” Die protested as he turned to look at Shinya.

“Kyo said you have.”

“He was wrong!”

Shinya turned to look at Die as he tried to hold back his tears. Trying his best to control his emotions as he spoke. “Don’t start screaming at me here.”

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to do that…” Die apologized as he looked at Shinya sadly.

“C’mon, Puppy, it’s almost time.” Shinya said, gesturing for Puppy to go to him. The whimpered as snuggled against Die, unwilling to leave.

“Don’t make things difficult for me.” Shinya said, sounding irritated. He waited for a moment as Puppy stayed in Die’s arm, staring at Shinya defiantly.

“Fine! Then stay here, I’ll go by myself.” Shinya said as he stood up angrily and picked up his luggage. He can’t believe that even Puppy seems to be defying him.

Puppy began scratching frantically at Die’s shirt when it saw Shinya trying to leave without it. Die looked down at the small animal and taking its hint, Die reached out and grabbed Shinya’s wrist before the drummer could leave.

“Don’t go, Shinya, stay with us… We really need you…” Die felt like kicking himself. Why can’t he just say it!? Just say that he can’t live without Shinya anymore, just say that he loves the drummer, just tell Shinya to be his!

Shinya sighed as he sat down again. He did want to stay, but he didn’t think that he can face Die again now without feeling miserable everyday knowing perfectly well that he can never have Die to feel the same way as he does.

“SHINYA!!!” Shinya looked up to see Kyo running excitedly towards him, with Kaoru and the pretty blue-haired bassist that they have got behind him.

“Shinya, don’t leave!” Kyo said he plonked himself down on Shinya’s lap

“Get off, Kyo, you’re gonna break the poor boy’s legs with your weight.” Toshiya said teasingly as he walked up towards them.

“I’m not THAT fat!” Kyo protested, pouting at Toshiya.

“Think you’ll better get off, Kyo, you’ll squash Shin-Chan like that.” Kaoru said, smacking Kyo’s forehead.

Glaring at Kaoru, Kyo got off Shinya’s lap reluctantly and turned to look at Shinya as he continued to rub the spot where Kaoru had hit him.

“We’re here to ask you to join us, Shinya.” Kaoru said, smiling at Shinya.

“I…”

“Aww, don’t have to think for so long, just say yes!” Toshiya said, beeming at Shinya, making the latter blush.

“I really…”

Kyo cut in before Shinya could reject, “I need you to defend me when they bully me, Shinya!”

“Yeah, please come back…” Die whispered as he looked at Shinya.

Shinya looked at his hands as he fought back the tears that threatened to fall. Sensing its owner’s sadness, Puppy finally decided to climb out of Die’s lap and went back to Shinya. Looking at his pet, Shinya smiled weakly and Puppy began nuzzling against Shinya’s stomach, trying to comfort his owner. Picking Puppy up, Shinya looked at Kaoru and said “Hai, yoroshiku onegaishimasu.”

Kyo jumped up in joy and began hugging Shinya, squashing Puppy in the process as the animal began barking in protest. It hated the small guy, he always bullied Puppy, cutting Puppy’s fur, pulling his tail, and using food to bait the poor dog when Puppy went to the studios with Shinya in the past.

Everyone laughed as Puppy began biting Kyo on his arm as the little devilish guy jumped up in pain, trying to shake the dog off, with Shinya panicking and asking Puppy to let go of Kyo’s arm.

Die felt so happy, he felt like crying… Shinya’s coming back… his Shin-Chan is finally coming back into his life…
