Billy Madison
Billy Madison is a movie about a millionaire entrepreneur who owns a company called Madison Hotels and his twenty something year old son Billy who lives the life of a spoiled rich kid. The conflict is between Billy being a lazy drunk and sitting with his free-loading friends all day by the pool versus going to college and becoming the heir to his fathers riches. The conflict is between Billy and his father, Billy’s’ father is ready to turn over his company to a top executive he believes will run the company well that is really a backstabbing, conniving man who wants to increase profits. When Billy hears of his fathers’ intentions he is very upset and wants another chance at becoming the heir. Billy reaches a deal with his father in which he will start over at school in first grade through high school completing each grade in two weeks and, if he can do that then he can be the heir to the company.

As the saying “to whom much is given, much is expected” goes Billy Madison has everything, every toy, every car, everything he ever wanted. He had everything but he had nothing at the same time because he was never challenged, teachers were paid to give him good grades, he never knew what hard work was, and most importantly he was never left with a feeling of success after doing a good job on something. The movie made me more aware of good and bad in our society because Billy Madison is no different from some of the top celebrities of our time; look at Paris Hilton for instance. Paris Hilton is the heiress to Hilton Hotels and other than being attractive and occasionally appearing on a television show or a movie she has never had to work hard or ever been taught that there is something beyond herself, that there are people out there she could help. The movie showed me how screwed up a society can be when we idolize those that are privileged and have done nothing versus the people who have done great things and have nothing to show for it. The movie challenges me to be something more, I have a life in which many things are handed to me but do I always do what is morally right or what is easy.
