"And when they had platted a crown of thorns , they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!"
Matthew 27: 29

Why did Jesus willingly receive this crown of thorns and mockery?   The answer was because he loved us and for the Father's will and glory.   He carried forth our Father's plan for salvation and to bring men back to God who would accept the Father's sacrifice of his only begotten Son.

When Adam and Eve sinned against God  they lost their original glory with God.  In the day they sinned, they were separated from the glory of God and surely died spiritually.  They were separated from the glorious presence of God which had been with them in the garden and the sweet fellowship of  his Holy Spirit.

The curse of sin affected not only their first estate with God,  but also the ground which brought forth  life giving trees  and vegetation.  The tree of the field was said to be man's life.  This was also under the curse.  Because of sin it  "would bring forth thorns and thistles and man would eat of it in sorrow  all the days of his life".  Genesis 3: 19  says:  "in the sweat of thy face shall thou eat bread,  till thou return unto the ground; for out of it was thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shall thou return."

The curse of sin is destruction and separation from God.  Jesus took the curse of sin for us  when he gave his life's blood at Calvary's cross.  He was crowned with a crown of thorns which was part of the curse upon the ground.  The curse of sin and its effects was placed upon the sacred head of Jesus. This crown, which should have been ours,  pierced not only his heart; but his flesh for us.

Jesus bore all our sins, sorrows, sickness and disease when He was crucified at Calvary.   God's only begotten Son came to earth in the form of a humble servant.  He willingly laid down his life for our sins and "FOR GOD'S GLORY".

When you look at the thorns of the field or in the midst of the roses, think about Jesus.  He was the Rose of Sharon among the thorns.  He bore the thorns on his brow and hung in disgrace on the cross for all mankind.  He was lifted up "for God's glory" and to draw all men unto Him.

One day we will behold the one who loved us so much He gave his life for us.  One day we will see the scars in his hands and feet and look upon his righteous brow which is now crowned with all glory and majesty.  May we endure until the end and press forward in faith.

There is a crown of righteousness prepared for those who believe and receive the only begotten of the Father and His sacrifice.  We are the "righteousness of God in Christ"  and all we are and do should be only "FOR HIS GLORY".   Because He took the curse of sin,  we have a blessed hope of eternal life.  One day we shall behold His glory face to face.  We shall give eternal glory and honor unto our Saviour. Until that day may we forever worship Him and offer unto Him a sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving.
