dark, thorny children, her
legs wide as the wings
of a butterfly circling

the sad paper with the
smudged faces of children, games of her
womb. Devastation is
all around. But

not really
deep inside her, mouth,
eyes, her hair

and the hard, frozen sun of
her raised stomach.
