As a child growing up Chan was already full of energy and somewhat troublesome. He got into sports to stay out of trouble and started doing football, track, baseball and soccer. In the 9th grade he was sent to militairy school. There his love for football eventually got him an athletic college scholarship. In High School he earned a full athletic college scholarship to a school in West Virginia. By now, Channing was also skilled in Kung Fu and Gor-Chor Kung Fu. Various jobs and modelling bits later he got onto the big screen as an actor. Step Up is one of his biggest works and he got to showcase his acting, dancing and athletic skills.
