Bio and martial arts background Mas. Oyama is a legendary martial artist and the creator of Kyokushinkai Karate. Mas Oyama himself was already an expert in Chinese Kempo, Judo and Karate. Karate was taught to him by Gichin Funakoshi, who founded the Karate as we know it. Mas Oyama gained many of his skills by sometimes moving to the mountains alone for meditating. He also fought with bears and bulls barehanded. He was a great student and after WWII he'd win all tournaments he entered. In 1951 he started his own Karate school. From that moment on he'd be one of the most famous teachers and many of todays masters have the privilige of having trained under Mas Oyama. One of his best students is the martial arts expert, championm teacher and actor Michael Foley.. Mas Oyama was not focussing on an acting carreer but he did appear in 2 martial arts movies. After his unfortunate death he became even more popular and for some he became a God.
