Bio and martial arts background
Andy, an orphan till his third was since then raised by his grandmother. Because it was a difficult time, being bothered by bullies, Andy was introduced in a Karate school when he was 10 years old. The talented Andy soon began competing to once become a champion.
Andy was 19 when he fought for the 1st time in Japan.at the Kyokushin 3rd World Open Tournament in 1983. He defeated 2 of the best fighters. He'd make it to the finals at the 4th Tournament, but lost to Matsui. Still, ANdy became a legend. The first and only European in a World Open finale. In 1988 however, Andy became a Kyokushin Karate Champion and in 1989 he became the Kyokushin European Champion.
Since then Andy travelled the whole world to teach Kyokushin and left the Kyokushin Organization in 1992. But Andy kept competing. He became a World Open Champion and competed in K-1 matches, fighting the best and greatest. Andy is credited as one of the ebst fighters in the world.

In 2000 Andy turned out to suffer from Leukemia. He realized that he might die soon, and chose to stay in Japan, which he considered his home. It is there in a hospital when Andy was taken away, but many memories remain. So does his loving wife, Ilona Hug. |
