Three Ideas From This Movie Summarized and Explained
Although so many important ideas were addressed from this movie, I think the three most important ideas are that thoughts affect our bodies, reality is so great that we can only experience a small part of it, and that emotions that form proteins can cause addictions on a cellular level.
First of all, “What the Bleep Do We Know” introduces the idea that external thoughts and emotions can affect the structure of our cells and therefore change the way we feel. Amanda visits a demonstration in the subway stop showing how love, anger, etc. affect water molecules. This is important because like they said in the movie, 90% of our bodies are made of water, so how we treat other people affects them greatly. Basically, negative thoughts cause water molecules to create bizarre, twisted patterns with no recognizable shape while positive thoughts create water molecules with intricate snow-flake patterned designs. If this is really what happens to small collections of water molecules, it is understandable how people can be affected so much by how other people feel about them.
I also thought that the concept of reality being so large we can only understand and perceive a small portion of it was very important. The way we view reality is so often biased by our worldviews (M. Scott Peck) that we only notice those things that we view as important. This concept is important because it is significant to realize our own limitations, as well as to understand that other people view reality in more or less different ways.
Finally, when we experience emotions and feelings, proteins are formed that affect the way our cells work, whether that be love, depression, happiness, etc. When we experience the cellular changes from these proteins too often, however, we can become addicted to the feelings, which is not good. This is important to know, because if we know this, we become more aware of our emotions so we don’t become addicts to our emotions.
In conclusion, I think that these are some of the most important ideas and concepts of “What the Bleep Do We Know”. They reveal quite a lot about ourselves and how we work as humans.
