Military jargon and Abbreviations/Air Combat Tactics
ACM COMPETITIONS:
To develop the combat readiness of the CVN-84v ATLANTIC Battle Group's CVW-25 Air wing, NAS
Key West runs competitions for ACM excellence in both SINGLE(1v1)
and ELEMENT (2v2) formations.
The SINGLE / "Halsey" trophy recognizes
individual achievement in a 1v1 dogfight with similar and dissimilar aircraft.
The ELEMENT / "Midway" trophy is awarded to
the ELEMENT with best record for 2v2 victories in the "Leader/Wingman"
elemental formation when flying against human elements from other Flights.
The
ELEMENT / "Mc Clusky" trophy is awarded
to the ELEMENT with the best record for taking out their enemies in the AIR BASE
ASSAULT missions. This proves both pilots are talented in multi-role aircraft and
proficient in both mud moving and ACM combat.

Scoring is done by posting a verifiable
victory to CVW-25 range message board. Flight leaders will normally verify a
"Midway" victory. A "Halsey" will be credited once the results have
been posted.
To be eligible for the "Midway" , Squadrons should form into stable 2 aviator
elements. Elements can have unique handles for ease of identification. Any two pilots from
a squad can form an element however. The aim is to achieve supremacy of the Squadron. Only
the Element's score will be posted. A" Midway" is awarded once one element
defeats another. That may often mean that only one aircraft survives the engagement.
In the "Midway" format , the lead aircraft may achieve most of the kills but the
Element with the best wingmen/tactics will become the top dogs of the day.

In honor of:
USS Enterprise Air Group - Lt. Comdr. Clarence W. Mc Clusky, USN (Battle of Midway)
The "Mc Cluskey" is awarded to the most proficient ATG (Ground Attack)
aviator attached to CVW-25 or 5 MAW during the course of an AIRBASE ASSAULT mission, since
these matches are set up as 2v2 it will awarded to both pilots in the victorious element.
