Nomar Garciaparra, as you probably know is the star shortstop for the Red Sox. His batting for average and power, and nifty defense have made him a fan favorite. He was drafted as the 12th pick overall in June, 1994 out of Georgia Tech. He finished second in AL MVP balloting in '98 only his second full year in the majors. He won the Rookie of the Year award in '97, and played in the All-Star Game. He started the '99 All-Star game at Fenway and won the AL Batting Title in 1999. And, he has just finished his third full season in the majors!
