Some news for anyone who still reads this. The last Powder Monkeys record "Outta Control Rock'n'Roll" has a release date and a launch gig planned for the 19th of November at the Tote Hotel. There will be a free B.B.Q and the money will be going to Tim's scholarship fund. A great line-up for the show, the bands will be Hoss, Spencer P. Jones, The Onyas, Meatbeaters and Hard Cormen {Sly Splaterheads band}. I don't know how much it is to get in as yet.
Here's a picture of the new 7 track 12" and C.D
Outta Control Rock'n'Roll

Hope to see all Powder Monkey fans at the show for one last event. Also, there should be vinyl and C.D's for sale.

11th Febuary  2005
Hi, it's been a while since I've felt like writing anything for the website, for reasons I hope you sympthize with.
Still reciving lots of e.mails about the band and Tim ,and still selling stock, thanks to everyone who has been writing in and still proud Powder Monkeys fans.

Richard Onya's label "Dropkick Records" will be releasing our last official record sometime early this year. It will be avalible  on both 12" vinyl and C.D and is a 7 track E.P For all real Powder Monkeys fans it's a real important record, as it contains the first 3 of a batch of songs that Tim had written and the band was playing {post 'Lost City Blues'}.There is a real progression in his song-writing and it's a shame this was the only recorded evedence of this growth.
Also anyone who has bought a copy of the Bang Records 7" of  2  live tracks. It has a nude Asian girl on the cover and is Red vinyl. You have bought a flawed pressing  that  has been rejected by the label.  The 2 record shops who  sold them both know that you can return the record and wait until the repressed ones come in.  I have a vested intrest in this because I say on the inside of the 7" that it the best Powder Monkeys I've heard and when you play it ,it sounds shit and makes a liar of me. So please return the single to the shop you bought it from and when I get the replacments, the 2 stores {Missing Link and Greville Records} will swap the single over. Finally there will be a new batch of T.shirts on sale soon, I'm taking orders now so if you want a classic Powder Monkeys t.shirt please e.mail me your size and how many you want. Also Vol 2 of the bootleg series is ready to come out, it's the same deal as the first, $12 each. You can order these as well thru  e.mailing me.

6th November  2003
A split single has just been released, only 60 for sale. It's on BAD ATTITUDE RECORDS and has our version of BLACK AND BLUE that we recorded for that movie, only to be left off it. Cunts!!
So, we gave it to a band called "the Speedfreaks" who asked to do a split single with us. The only shop in Melbourne you'll be able to get it from will be International Trash ,which is just near the Corner Hotel in Richmond, or you can buy it through our website. Just e.mail us at  powdermonkeys@hotmail.com
This is the first thing to come out with Todd drumming and post Tims death, so buy it.

26th September 2003
It has been decided that there will be one final Powder Monkeys release. A 6 track 12" E.P that will include on one side ,our last 3 originals {post Lost City Blues} that we had been playing live, the first lot of songs that would have eventually made up our next L.P. Tim had over 15 songs already written, but these were the only ones that were recorded one night at the Tote way back when Sean Greenway died. Side two will consist of 3 covers that have never been released, including our last ever studio recording. These 3 covers are real killers. Keep checking up on the site for more news on when this will be released.  Also a split single will be released in Sweden that you might only be able to buy through the website. Stay tuned for what will be the last of the late, great Powder Monkeys
Also there will be some official bootlegs that will be avalible only through the website. For info on what you can buy ,just e.mail us. Some real killer gigs and studio out-takes, for the real die-hard fans.

22nd  July 2003

Yesterday night, Tim Hemensley, co-founder, singer, song writer and bass player of the band tragically died at the age of 31.
Thus ending the band in its 10th year, and my {John Nolan} wonderful 13 year musical partnership with this phenomenal musical genius. Anyone who was lucky enough to see the Powder Monkeys live or Tims and my brief time in Bored! together will know what I'm talking about. Everyone else will have the 3 great studio albums, 1 awesome live album and countless E.P's and singles we put out to enjoy forever.
There are still 3 unreleased Powder Monkeys songs yet to come out. 1 of them a cover of "the Dogs" song BLACK TEA which will be released on a Japanese's comp this year.
This web site will remain up as a forever lasting tribute to Tim and the music we all made together in those 10 crazy years. And as long as it remains you will still be able to buy stock through this web site.
It was the best time of my life and it will never be the same now he's gone.
R.I.P.  BROTHER

10th February 2003
Nothing happening in the Powder Monkeys camp at the moment.Tim wants the band to have a break, so that's what we're doing.
Still got heaps of stock to sell ,so go to the Merch page and check it out, I think you'll be suprized to see what we've got for sale.{Have some of the old classic t.shirts back  in stock}
sold out, more sometime in early 2005

Played with our old friends "DEAD MOON" the other month, it was great to catch up with 'em and the gig ,played at the Corner Hotel, was packed and DEAD MOON played for nearly 2 hours!!!!!!!
1st September  2002
The Powder Monkeys support & first gig back, supporting the Dictators on the 18th of last month was a great success. With the Tote being packed by 7.30 to see our first gig back. Plus meeting the Dictators was  one of the thrills of our lives.  Handsome Dick, Andy, Ross the Boss & J.P, couldn't be nicer blokes, it was a shame that Top Ten couldn't come to Australia but fuck me, they  still sounded fantastic. They loved the Melbourne audience and did two or three encores. The great thing for the Powder Monkeys was that the fans came out to support us after 14 months of no gigs. So to all  who got there early -THANKS. And to the Dictators ,we hope to see you in Brooklyn.
6th  August  2002
Not long now until the Powder Monkeys first gig back. It's been well over 13 months since our last gig and we'll be the first band on the bill at the DICTATORS show at the TOTE on the 18th. This means we'll be on stage around 7.00 p.m. {very early}, so make sure  you're there!!!!!  Even though word made it back to the Powder Monkeys camp that even though we had secured the gig, the management of the Tote wanted to throw us off the bill for reasons unknown to us!!! But too late , we'll be playing. And get there early {7.00p.m ,our playing time}, because its on a Sunday. SO AS FAR AS THE POWDER MONKEYS ARE CONCERNED, NOTHING HAS CHANGED, THE PUNTERS LOVE US AND WANT TO SEE US BUT THE PROMOTERS ARE STILL SHIT SCARED OF US!!!!
18th  July  2002
Well we went to see the premiere of DIRTY DEEDS and though it was a great film, we were crushed to find out  that our song wasn't even in the fuckin' film. Still on the movie soundtrack if you want to buy it. Being in a band used to shit like this, we recovered quickly and attacked the after party with  a vengeance. Drinking and eating everything in sight and trying to live up to our reputation.
What still amazes us is that they spent something like $6000 on our recording. They could have flushed the money down a toilet or even given it to us to record our next L.P!!!!!
12th  July  2002
The Powder Monkeys will be walking down the red carpet at the Premiere of DIRTY DEEDS at Crown Casino, because we are on the soundtrack. Of course we'll be doing our best to ruin the whole night, we haven't worked it out yet, how we're going to do it but please turn up at the Clarendon St. entrance between 6.30pm - 7.00pm Wednesday 17th to see us in action. It'll be worth it.
8th  July  2002
Well mommy dreams do come true.....The POWDER MONKEYS WILL BE PLAYING THEIR FIRST GIG and it looks like we'll be on the bill , supporting the Dictators at the Tote on the 18th of August . Most likely we'll be first band on the bill doing a 20 min set. So for all you people who have been waiting for the Powder Monkeys to start playing again - get your tickets real soon because it'll be a sell-out show.
Wrote to Andy Shernoff and he wrote back saying he was looking forward to catching up with the Powder Monkeys in Melbourne. FUCK YEAH!!!!
5th  July  2002
Hey, Hey, Hey the Dictators, yes you heard me right the fuckin' DICTATORS are coming to Melbourne next month, so far I think they're doing only two shows. On the 17th at the Corner Hotel and the 18th at the Tote Hotel, which gives the Powder Monkeys 6 weeks to their set together, because you see, we really want to support them because they are like one of the reasons we exist, today as a band. We've got the set , just need  the promoter to give us 20 min on stage. Plus, it would be the first gig back for the band since June last year. So wish us luck.
27th June 2002
I think , the Dirty Deeds movie soundtrack{BMG} will be released real soon because we received some copies today. The Powder Monkeys on a whole are not to pleased with the final result. But what can you do when you have nothing to do with the mixing down of  the song, and it was also the first time the band has played together for nearly a year, and John's first time  playing since his heart attack. So even though the C.D. will get some major promotion and airplay. Don't expect to be hearing the Powder Monkeys cover of "Black and Blue" to be played on JJJ or other major radio stations!!!!! But go and see the the film and listen to for us somewhere in the movie!
24th June 2002
The Powder Monkeys practiced last night and it went better then we all thought. I didn't fall over!! and we totally nailed down "Black Tea"{to know more go down to April 6th entry}. We'll most likely be recording it live on 8 track and then mix it down in a 24 track studio to make it sound huge. We'll be practicing every week now until we've got a new set down, as I said before hopefully no longer than 3 months away. We even had an audience!!
Also ,we'll have some new photo's {with our new drummer - he has been with us for 2 years} on our photo page soon. So look out!!!!
21st June 2002
We start practicing this week for our first gig back {hopefully in at least the next 3 month},I {John} just can't stand it no more, this not playing. It's been over a year since I've played live and I'm going fuckin' crazy!!!!! Also we have to polish up on the DOGS song - "Black Tea" for the compilation we're on.
Also, Tim's doing a fanzine that has an interview with Deniz Tek and lots of other stuff that I don't have a clue about , but probably lots on his favorite bands plus his theories on the world and beyond. Should be out in a couple of months, but I'll let you know when and you'll be able to buy it thru the website.
Hey, also I found out that the 7" split single we did with Adam West, where we do a cover of Black Sabbath's "The Wizard" is completely sold out. So if you see it - buy it !! It's rare.
1st June 2002
If you can read Italian !! Even if you can't there's a fanzine called Metallic K.O  that's got an article and interview with the Powder Monkeys {issue 2}. It comes with a free 10 track C.D. which has a Powder Monkeys song on it - "Unfair Dismissal"- taken from the Lost City Blues album. Issue 1 has an article on Bored {John's and Tim's} old band, the C.D{16 tracks} that comes with that has Motherfuckin' Motherfucker, a song that John and Tim play on and also a live version of Bored doing "Seek and Destroy" with John on lead guitar. To e-mail them just click here
Last night the mighty Radio Birdman played one of the most kick ass sets I've ever seen, talk about being on fire. Fuck me dead!!!.They just killed. A great crowd at the Prince of Wales {Melbourne} that hasn't seen Rock'n'Roll there like that for a very long time, I think this is the last time we'll see 'em as I''ve heard their calling it quits after this re-union tour- Well, if it's true, long live high energy Rock like this because I just can't live without it!!!!!!! Also, I ran into Deniz who said they'd been recording that afternoon, so expect something new from them, soon.
29th May 2002
COME-ON YOU {SO CALLED} POWDER MONKEYS FANS

So how about it, help us out and get some kick ass Rock'n'Roll at the same time. Also we've got some more of the super RARE and FANTASTIC split single "CHECK THIS ACTION" with the awesome HELLACOPTERS covering Love's -This House is Not A Motel and us doing Dead Moon's -Destination X. 16th April 2002
Hey, if you've been after our Dogmeat back catalogue , we've found  some that we're now selling. Our very first single "Yin-Yang"on C.D {vinyl is sold out}, which is a good thing because you get the very first song we recorded as a bonus track - an 8 track version of  "Atomic Resolution", "Smashed on a Knee"- our CLASSIC first full length C.D, "Straight Until Morning" 5 track C.D. - E.P that includes "I Thank You" {voted by some as single of that year-1993 or '94 !??} and  kick ass live radio JJJ versions of "Persecution Blues" & "I Stand Bare", "Supernova that Never Quits" 3 track C.D. single {with covers of Motorheads "Built for Speed" and one of Tim's great songs  from the old Bored! days -"Conquest"} as the 2  bonus tracks available no where else, and "Time Wounds All Heels" our 2nd full length C.D. Considered by some to be our best full  length record. We'll be selling them real cheap, so help us out and do yourself a favor and BUY THEM !!!!!  Have a listen on sound page1 and sound page 2  or go to our Merchandise page to check 'em out   or click on reviews and read what other people have to say about  them. And we still have copies of our live album "Blood, Sweat & Beers" {which is my [JOHN's] favorite}on C.D. for $20 and "Lost City Blues" on Vinyl and C.D. + promo poster for $22.
Also we'll have a new single coming out thru our friend "Gregor's" label in Germany. 2 brand new post "Lost City Blues"songs recorded live at the TOTE HOTEL for Sean Greanways wake early last year. Both songs will end up on our next studio L.P. But until we can find some $$$$  for that L.P, these 2 songs will have to do for anyone who's been hanging out for some new Powder Monkeys songs.. I'll let you know when they'll be released and what Gregors label is called. blah.... blah ...blah.......
6th April 2002
Hey, the Powder Monkeys have been asked to be on a" Tribute to the Dogs" record, you know, contemporary bands doing a cover of their favorite Dogs tune! We're doing "Black Tea, a real fuckin' killer".The Dogs being one of THE great, lost Detroit bands. Heaps of crazy Japanese bands are on it including 'Guitar Wolf' + some U.S.bands, I think! So thanks to Jack who's putting this thing together and thinking of us for this comp. If you want to hear a whole heap of DOGS tunes ,you can buy "The Dogs - Fed Up" C.D. on the Dionysus label out of the U.S.A. I think it has all their stuff on it, including the mighty punk rock classics "SlashYour Face", "John Rock & Roll Sinclair" and "Black Tea". It's one C.D. you have to own!!!!
When there's more to know about  the comp. I'll let you.
19th March 2002

Yesterday the Powder Monkeys recorded a song for a  movie "Dirty Deeds" that'll be starring John Goodman, Toni Collette, Sam Neil, Bryan Brown and a bevy of stars too long to list . And thanks to our friend Tim Rodgers {You Am I} we recorded a kick ass version of  Chains- "Black and Blue" and though I was well short of being ready to play for a whole day, I did and the whole band did really well, considering it was the first time we've played together since June 2001, and we learnt the song the night before the recording.
SO FOR ALL POWDER MONKEYS FANS -- GOOD NEWS, WE STILL GOT THE OLD MAGIC
AND  WILL BE BACK SOON
22nd February 2002
Hey, John Nolan here again updating the site for anyone who gives a fuck to read this shit.
First I must thank everyone who has written to the e-mail address saying how happy they are to hear that I'm back on my feet and playing guitar again, after my heart attack. And looking forward to the next Powder Monkeys L.P. Received the latest Hellacopters C.D. the other day, a compilation of all  their rare singles called "Cream of  the Crap!", that totally smokes so if you dig 'em like we do- buy it. It gets the Powder Monkeys seal of approval.
10th February 2002
Last night , Hoss played their first show in about 3 years. This was a big deal for us rock fans in Melbourne who have had nothing but  bands folding, people dying and general bad shit happening for a couple of years now. Everyone was there and they totally kicked ass and we all  had a great time. I don't think this means they're going to start playing every week again, but it was a blast to see them play again and they'll be playing with Radio Birdman sometime in May.
13th January 2002
Well, well, well, been a long  fucking time since I've updated this, but for good reason. On the 4th July 2001, I {John Nolan - guitar}suffered a heart attack{you figure it out}. Died for 4 min. Lucky for me I was already in an Ambulance. They jump started me then and there ,stayed in a coma for two or so weeks  but came through it intact!!!!!!  Since then I've been learning to: stand, walk ect....6 months later I'm close to being  back to my 'ol self. The Powder Monkeys have had no choice but to stop all playing. We should be back in action as soon as I'm able to hold it together for a whole gig. And we'll record our next studio L.P hopefully before the end of the year. Got some great new songs already written , so keep watching this space ---------------for more
SO THERE'S SOME FUCKIN' NEWS FOR YA....MAKES UP FOR SUCH A LONG PERIOD OF SILENCE.

2nd  May 2001
The  weekend of the18th -20th May the Powder Monkeys will be in Sydney. Friday the 18th playing in Newcastle, Sat- Sunday playing in the City. More details when I get 'em, but if your from Sydney check the free press for venues ect...
1st February
O.K , its been a long time since we've updated this web site, but not much has been going on in the Powder Monkeys camp. But something Powder Monkeys fans {and fans of all good Aust. rock'n'roll} should know is that our good friend and colleague SEAN GREENWAY , formally of FOOT AND MOUTH,  GOD , FREELOADERS and the fabulous YESMEN died tragically  on the 21st January . Sean will be sadly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him and call him a friend. The Melbourne punk / rock'n'roll scene will never be the same. Rock in peace - brother.

Back to P.M. news, for all those in Australia, yes our record is out .  Our distributor " Stomp" have done fuck all in the way of promoting the release. So please ask at your local  record store because it is in stock both C.D. and  Vinyl. Though if you read your local music rags you wouldn't know about it.. As  far as the Powder Monkeys are concerned the Australian music scene can suck our collective COCKS, as big and  tasty as they are.   FUCK  YOU  ALL
19th November
"Lost City Blues" C.D. is finally out . Should be pretty easy to get at good record stores. 12" vinyl should be available in the next few weeks.
Powder Monkeys will be touring Europe in August 2001, countries  including Spain , Germany, Holland, Denmark, Norway ,Sweden, Italy and England. Stay tuned for dates and stuff.

17th July
Big news in the Powder Monkeys camp.
Last Saturday  we played our first gig with new drummer Todd Mc Neir. He replaces our original drummer Timmy Jack Ray who's left the band after nearly 9 years of service.Todd  has  been apart of the
Melbourne punk rock scene for many a year, formally playing with the Seminal Rats and Hoss and  is a welcomed addition to the band.
28th June
Well they said it would never happen, but on the 26th of August at the Corner Hotel the mighty Bored! {circa 1990 "Take It Out On You"} which was Tim Hemensley -Bass,Vocal , John Nolan -Lead Guitar ,Dave Thomas -Guitar, Vocal and Justin "Buzz" Munday -Drums, will  play a one off show to help promote the new "Chunks" 2 C.D. best of.  Supporting will be  both  the Powder Monkeys and the current line-up of Bored + the Onyas and Warped.
This show will never be repeated so if you never got to see this line-up of  Bored!  this will be your one and only chance.
Also, on July 14 the Powder Monkeys will be supporting the  New Christ's at the Tote, should be a killer.
24th May
Here's the cover of the New L.P and  a track listing. We'll have  copies real soon so check the sounds page and you'll be able to hear  samples of a few of the songs.

Just back from our first gigs in Sydney for 4 years. Two shows with Yes Men, Brother Brick and the Panadolls.
The Sunday show at the Iron Duke Hotel was filmed for an upand coming web broadcast. We'll keep you posted as to when  that'll happen.
Check out Flattery the Radio Birdman comp. Jake Starr and Dave Champion released. We're on Vol. 1 doing our best to screw up " Smith and Wesson Blues"
 Our new studio L.P is called " Lost City Blues" it was recorded by Fred Estby in Stockholm at Das Boot Studios ,May last year and features a few locals doing some guest spots. Chuck Pounder  lays some tasty guitar solos on a track and his band the "A.Bombs" and the girls from the awesome" Misdemeanor" give us a hand doing some backing vocals . Nicke { Hellacopter} is doing the cover art and Bobba Fett lent us a lot of extra gear {guitars, pedals, amps etc...}

Also while we were in Stockholm , John laid down some guitar on a track from the Turpentines  {scene above} latest single for Bad Afro - Showstopper / Too Much Too Soon. Check it out because these guys totally rock and get the Powder Monkeys seal of approval.
