Small groups of the benches are clustered together so that one can be viewed in the distance from another, inviting visitors to traverse the landscape while viewing diverse Art Center vistas. He created Pyramidian by deftly using steel beams as linear elements to define the outlines of a monumentally scaled pyramidal structure; a sixty-foot-long beam suspended horizontally inside the open pyramid moves in response to gusts of wind. By placing a high powered telescope south of the museum building and directing it towards the single-unit water tower of the nearby Star Expansion Company, the artist has conceptually annexed the tower to the Storm King collection. The founders of Storm King purchased the water tower in 1958, choosing the monumentally scaled utilitarian object as much for its form as for its function. Knight was inspired by the beauty of the tower and saw its purchase as foreshadowing the subsequent efforts of Ralph E.

The commissioned works are integral to the buildings refurbishment carried out in 1991-3. For eighteen months the project team worked closely, developing and refining designs, techniques and materials for the most comprehensive and exciting range of artworks to be commissioned by the City. The result is a building which successfully combines contemporary art, craft and architecture. Fountains Cafe Chic, cheerful and friendly, the Fountains Cafe serves healthy lunches, morning coffee and afternoon teas at a reasonable price. Children are welcome and catered for with half portions at reduced rates, and for the very young highchairs are available.
