Kes is back, only it's not the same Kes that the crew said goodbye to. She appears in a shuttle, looking much older, asking for Voyager's help...but then she steers her shuttle into deck eleven, transporting right before impact. She walks through the ship, tearing it apart with the mental forces that forced her to leave Voyager 3 years ago. When she gets to engineering, she attaches herself to the warp core, drawing power from it and killing B'Elanna Torres in the process. She uses the warp core to transport herself back in time - back to when Voyager had been in the Delta Quadrant for only 56 days. Kes incapacitates the Kes of that time, and takes her place. No one is the wiser - except Tuvok, who suggests using the Delta Flyer for a mission, and sees Naomi Wildman and the Borg children, none of whom exist yet. Kes, meanwhile, furtively makes plans to deliver Voyager into the hands of the Vidiians, and take the Kes of the time back to Ocampa. When Tuvok is taken ill in the sickbay, Captain Janeway must find out what is going on - why and when did Kes travel back to destroy Voyager's crew.
