Bio and martial arts background
Born in Yokohama, Japan in 1938.
Fumio Demura began studying Kendo at the age of 8. He would go further to study Karate and Okinawan Kobudo and eventually become Japan's National Kumite Champion in 1961. In 1965 he moved to the US to teach in California. Fumion is considered the first to teach Shito Ryu and Okinawan Kobudo ever in the US.
In 1969 Fumio was inducted in the Black Belt Hall of Fame as Karate Sensei of the Year and in 1975 he was called The Martial Artist of the Year.
Between the 70's and 80's he would write many books and in the 80's he started his movie carreer as an actor and stuntman. He has been in some of the coolest movies, such as Mortal Kombat, but many will remember him as the stunt double for Mr. Miyagi in all the Karate Kid movies. Fumio and the legendary Pat E. Johnson have been friends ever since and worked together in many movies. |
