1. Wolong Panda Reserve
Wolong National Nature Reserve, established in 1975, is a part of the Sichuan Province of China. From Chengdu, it is about four hours' drive. Wolong is a highland almost one thousand meters above sea level. The altitude brings it high contrast of weather among the four seasons of a year.
Wolong was established primarily to protect the habitat of the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca), China's most famous endemic species, but is also rich in other mammals, birds and reptiles, with 19% of the country's animal species represented.
Few people do not know about the Giant Pandas. Their symbolic black and white fur-colour distinguishes them well from any other animals. Giant Pandas, with only about one thousand left in the wild, are also the most well known endangered animals in the world. These rare animals are endemic to China.
