Music Madness

Use a variety of musical styles to share an appreciation for music. Let the kids have a chance to respond to music by making their own or by dancing.

Books

Bebop Express by H.L. Panahi ; illustrated by Steve Johnson and Lou Fanche  This is a hip and hep rap that can be told in a smooth voice. It visits many of the American Jazz scenes.

Punk Farm by Jarrett J. Krosoczka. You gotta tell this one like a punk rocker. The characterizations are a hoot!" Whatever, dude!" says the Goat.

Zin! zin! zin! : a violin by Lloyd Moss ; illustrated by Marjorie Priceman. From solo, to duet, to chamber orchestra this book is a great counting and instrument book.

 

Jazzy Miz Mozetta by Brenda C. Roberts. Use a southern twang to bring this book about dancing to life.

 

Activity

Use rhythm band instruments to create a fun beat. Lead them as a conductor would. Let the kids have a turn being the conductor.

Craft

Make a banjo.

Materials:

q       Yogurt cups.

q       Rubber bands

q       Paper

q       Glue

Remove the labels from the cups. Decorate the cups with paper or markers. Stretch a rubber band across the mouth.  You are ready to make some music!
