Isaiah
Key Ideas about Isaiah

Isaiah is considered the greatest of the prophets. He was called to the prophetic office in 742 BC. Isaiah saw the lord seated on a throne surrounded by the seraphim. A Seraphim cleansed his lips with the embers from the altar at the temple. Isaiah came during a time of turmoil where Israel was invaded by the Assyrians in 722 and the army of the Sennacherib in 701. His time as a prophet is divided up into three periods, under the reigns of Jothan (742-735), Ahaz (735-715), and Hezekiah (715-687). Most of the book of Isaiah is a series of poems of wisdom by Isaiah and his disciples. Isaiah does not follow the pattern of unlikely heroes, as Isaiah had a vision of the land in the temple of Jerusalem.
