On Charles's tombstone, it states G.A.R. which stands for Grand Army of the Repulic, an organization of the Union Civil War veterans. There was a National Headquarters, State Headquarters, and many Chapters, also known as Camps, located throughout each state. In that there are no Civil War Veterans still living, the organization no longer exists, however, there is the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and The Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
